personally thought this was spectacular. kept my attention much better than their previous work and i was pretty fond of eden. title track is the only skip for me. pretty surprised by how much i loved it! look to windward, past self and infinite baths are The Ones for me so far. can't wait to sink more into this (and to experience these in a live setting) i'm all in on the worshipping now.
tbf Birb kind of blew up because of Eden so makes sense he'd rather get a true first listen with his channel
my discord mate who is really into ST said mostly what everyone is saying on here that its underwhelming/draining/etc and he said to check out this song and what you both said i agree, its different for them and i think that's why he recommended me it, it surprised him too.
There's some nice moments on here, I really like the production and some of the musical choices. Unfortunately there's also a bunch of stuff that really doesn't work for me, especially the vocals and the trap sections. Overall it's alright but not really my thing.
I like the opener, Caramel, Gethsemane and Even In Arcardia but the rest goes in one ear out the other even though it sounds pleasant. What they're doing, taking elements from genres that seem disconnected from each other at first glance and blending them or shifting from one to the other, should appeal to me. I continue to think that, most of the time, they're doing that in the most pedestrian way. Can't help but feel like there's potential they haven't been able to fully tap into yet. Whatever the genre they tackle, it ends up sounding bland. Past Self is the worst offender, sounding like hundreds of contemporary trap pop songs from the past decade. Gethsemane shows they can do so much more. That one truly feels like a journey.
Great album. It's more consistent than TMBTE in my opinion. I love the spikes of heaviness mixed in with all the softer stuff. I wonder where they go from here.
Great album. I still prefer tmbte by a little bit over this, but man the highs might be higher on this. Infinite baths, emergence, gethsemane & look to winward are truly fantastic. Also, extremely insane that this is probably going to debut at #1 on the billboard overall charts in the US AND UK.
I just can’t get over how almost every song starts out with a slow piano/synth passage and builds - really wish the song structures were more varied. It wears me down as a complete record
anyone with the vinyl figure out how to sleeve this thing? i have oversized outer sleeves from vinylstoragesolutions.ca, and the jacket is ungodly wide (maybe the widest in my collection that isn't a book styled record) and won't fit. don't have the money to look for bigger sleeves at the moment (and importing is gonna be hell with the tariffs). my current solution is to store it in a sideways standard sized outer sleeve (it fits that way), but i really don't like the look of it.
Provider is the only one that hasn’t really clicked with me yet, but overall I have positive feelings towards this one. Critics will probably hate it, but that’s fine. I’m not a critic. I love plenty of movies that were panned, and didn’t like plenty that are critically acclaimed.
I can't really handle the double album rumors right now. People throwing around September for potential new songs. It seems that lyrics on spotify/apple are being capitalized to spell (so far) The House. Putting my tinfoil hat on, wouldn't it be wild if they drop another LP, The House Must Endure in the fall? That way together its Even In Arcadia, The House Must Endure.
I’m fine with more music. However I’m skeptical as to whether it’ll be justified. Not going to judge until (if) it come out
also looks like the Japanese bonus tracks are just alternate versions - Emergence (Instrumental Version) and Even In Arcadia (Piano Version)
this band has gone from guilty pleasure to an everyday listen. Enjoying this a lot...provider and dangerous are the only two tracks that don't grab me
I’m really enjoying the whole thing. Even though I’d say I’m a fan of heavier music, the softer parts of this album really captivate me (Emergence soft parts, Damocles, parts of Geth and Baths). The band gets PLENTY of hyperbole and hate, but I’ll always be thrilled with five/six/seven minute conceptual, genre fluid songs filled with saxophone, R&B, piano, math rock riffs, blastbeats, breakdowns, and screaming becoming more and more mainstream.
Gethsemane, Damocles and Provider make me really exciting for more just really good alt rock songs. Euclid was my favorite from TMBTE so it checks.
