I’ve had both Emergence and Caramel on repeat nonstop. Looking forward to hopefully hearing one more single before May 9th. Also hoping that the pressings for this album are better than the 7”. Wasn’t awful but whoever Spinefarm used for the first 3 LPs sounded great.
heard the 7 inch was really bad re: fidelity and quality control. i'm hopeful that they'd put more effort into pressing a full album. idk if all RCA artists use the same pressing plants, but the RCA records i have sound really good (save for maybe Sempiternal)
I feel like this used to happen all the time in the early-mid 2000s back when CDs were popular. There was always a Japanese version with bonus tracks. Not sure why that was so popular, but I'm sure there was a reason for it.
i think Japanese bonus tracks primarily existed as a means of getting customers to buy domestically than import (since production costs in Japan are a tiny bit higher). and iirc, digital didn't really take off over there the way it did in the West, so i think there's still an incentive to continue the practice
Found it. I need to admit by bias but I don't think I could ever not love something they do. Feeling a bit of Sundowning vibes here.
Damocles is good, but it's also not as exhilarating of a single choice. the singles for their past couple records have either sounded different than what they've done before or have been incredibly well-written and executed. i don't hate the song, but it just sounds like it could've been on another one of their albums as a non-single. i'm sure it'll grow on me more, but it doesn't feel as interesting as the other two for this record.
I think people are waiting for the heavy one like a Vore or Summoning type single. Not sure if they'll release another by album release. In terms of singles this feels like the DYWTYLM of these singles so far.
agreed, but DYWTYLM still felt interesting given how much of a departure it was from their original sound. this song just sounds like any of the ballads from their other records. not saying they should've selected a heavier track, and i know selecting this one might've appealed to fans who love their ballads more, but i just don't know how intriguing of a single choice this is.
Good points, I agree. Kinda sickens me to say this, but releasing the heaviest of the tracks would likely do well for the social media/youtube reaction clicks.
I don’t know, I think this is easily my favorite single. Sleep Token have a way of writing really compelling “simple” songs. For example, Distraction is one of my favorite songs in the band’s catalog. They’re really good at doing more with less sometimes and that becomes more apparent when compared with their busier songs. This one almost feels less gimmicky than the first two singles which are, I suppose, a little more unpredictable and all over the place (I still really like them). TL, DR: This is a superb power ballad that was painstakingly designed for arenas. Delicate, yet powerful.
When the second verse comes in it almost feels like early Coldplay in a way. I mean that as a compliment. Vessels melodies are just on fire so far.
Don't get me wrong I love Sleep Token but I'm slightly underwhelmed by this new one. Maybe I am jumping the gun and I'll love it after a few more listens, but it feels very standard for a single. Slower piano ballad that then has some heavy guitars and drums at the end. I am sure I'll change my mind though
This feels like the “lore” wrapped in TMBTE and this album is more direct. I’m here for it. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the singles. I listened to the band, initially, for the bangers but now I’m staying for the ballads/deep cuts. Never thought I’d be stoked for a band like I am for Sleep Token.
So far im taking it as the the "trilogy" was Vessel's struggle with Sleep, eventually making it back to Eden free of Sleep, whatever that may be. "Even In Arcadia" to me feels like Vessel is still struggling, dealing with all these things after the fact of dealing with Sleep. Arcadia in greek mythology is "celebrated as an unspoiled, harmonious wilderness". So even with making it back to Eden, there is still darkness, mental health struggles, fear, grief anxiety, etc. We are just hearing more directly from Vessel now. It feels like Leo feels more comfortable speaking through the mask, not behind it.
song has grown on me quite a bit in the last 24 hours. still don't think it's a great single choice, but i dig it more than i did.
