The insane reviews are funny yes, but I feel like in total bad faith. If you don't like it you don't like it. I feel the unnecessarily harsh words is almost its own shtick like ST's that they are making fun of.
I'm nearly 40 and reading the lyrics to Provider made me think I'm probably too old to take this seriously. But I'll give it a full listen soon enough. "You been hittin' my phone so hard I found it breathing through a tube in the ICU Yeah, I see you, the only bad baddy spinning eyes in the room..."
Provider is the only song on this record that hasn't clicked with me, and the lyrics definitely don't help
ha. Yea, that's what puts me off a lot of new music these days when I just can't relate to the lyrics. I don't have to always relate to it in my current situation, but I also don't want to feel so out of touch or cringe at it. I'd like to think that the whole provider song is very tongue in cheek though but who knows. I like this album a good bit but I do think it lacks the variety / edge / bite of previous albums. But it's got songs that will be on repeat for me for a while.
To be fair I bet my dad felt the same 20 years ago when he heard "and will you tell all your friends, you've got your gun to my head" blasting from my bedroom.
See these lyrics might seem violently stupid at first glance until you realize it's actually a Pokemon reference. And from there we can reasonably infer the woman he's singing about is probably named Evie. There's so much depth to his writing that the average person simply won't pick up on it.
I can’t tell if I like this band or not lol. But infinite baths is a great song that I’ve played a lot recently. The rest not so much.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Sleep Token. The lyrics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of chemistry and gaming most of the lyrics will go over a typical listener's head. There's also II's insane drumming, which is deftly woven into Vessel's genre switching - his personal philosophy draws heavily from gospel drumming, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these lyrics, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Sleep Token truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Vessel's existencial catchphrase "Stick to me like caramel," which itself is a cryptic reference to burned sugar and the song "Sugar" I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as II's genius unfolds itself in their ear canals. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Sleep Token tattoo of my favorite lyrics translated into the runes. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the worshippers' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 Genius.com IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. (I love Sleep Token btw)
I can't tell if this is a very funny joke. Also, DMX already 'rhymed' ICU with I See You on Where The Hood at in 2003. So stick that in your 'vessel' and smoke it.
Take Me Back To Eden. Then if you dig the heavier stuff, This Place Will Become Your Tomb. If you like the lighter stuff, Sundowning. Then bring it all home with Even In Arcadia
I finally gave this album a full listen the other day and I love it. Gethsemane is my favorite right now. Gonna need to dive into the back catalog soon.
