Isn't it often something like if they release the songs then the songwriters would have to get paid, so holding them prevents that from happening? Just normal greedy label stuff

on one hand, i'm glad she's free of her old label and can put out music on her own terms. on the other hand, between most of Masochism being held by Capitol and her perfectionism, i don't think we'll get a new album for quite some time, be it Masochism or something new entirely if she sees getting the rights back to those songs as a losing game (or rerecording them, which she says she doesn't have the money to do from scratch)
i'm approaching her the same way i approach Frank Ocean nowadays - it'd be cool to have new music, but i'm not holding my breath anymore after so many false promises
