Skirts - Great Big Wild Oak (July 30th, 2021)

New signing to Double Double Whammy. Never heard of them before but this is immediately one of my favorite songs of the year.

Skirts rule. I saw them open for Spencer Radcliffe a couple years ago and I really enjoyed their set!

Spent time today listening to their two EPs, Bus Dream and Always Touching, and they’re both worth a listen. Much more lo-fi/bedroom pop than either of the new songs, though

 

this record is going to own my ears once released I can tell

 

my initial thoughts are not what I had hoped

not sure –– its very singer songwritery, very just vocals and acoustic guitar type deal[/spolier]

 

try as I might, I can’t really get into it. Too soft of a sound. I was hoping for more tracks like Hurt a Fly & Streetlight Blues/Red Shoulder from her last record.

 

Always is such a jam. One of my favorite t to tracks of the year.

 

In a perfect world, skirts would go on tour with Addy & we’d all have a great time

I’m really feeling this. The first and last tracks probably could have been fleshed out a bit more, and idk if the interlude really needs to be there, but everything else is great.

 

this is definitely scattered & all over the place but I didn't have any expectations going in so its cool
