Finally saw this. Definitely one of the scariest movies I've seen. I'm actually not sure I'd change a thing. The longer runtime adds to the atmosphere. There were a few moments when I was simultaneously scared and starting to fall asleep, which was trippy. It also made me realize that most horror movies are you witnessing a nightmare, as opposed to this one which actually functions as your own nightmare. It does that incredibly well. I also found the storytelling more linear and coherent than expected. You have to piece things together, but there's an obvious progression of events that gets scarier as the movie goes on. The last 20 mins were excruciating in a way I've not felt since Hereditary.
Just caught this—unconventional, bold swing of a film! More of a moving painting considering its sparseness in nearly every aspect. Not entirely sure I enjoyed it as much as I respect its vision. Utterly gorgeous use of texture and light/darkness, and appreciate the narrative and visual ambiguities, but my patience admittedly wore thin in the second half. I was just desperate to see a human face at a certain point (which is likely the intention). Anyway, very glad this exists and to have seen it.
An all-timer for me at this point. Still probably the most unsettling (read: scariest) film I've seen as an adult. Afraid to revisit it now that I have a child.
