I missed out on the Oppenheimer filmstrip. Looks like I’ll miss out on this one as well. Would be nice
I thought this was good. The structure and pacing was weird, but the acting, cinematography, and score were all pretty good.
Soooo I really liked it, but liked the idea of it more than the execution, I guess? The vampire stuff ended up being goofier and more drawn out than I was expecting, but using the vampires as a literal analogy for white people poaching black culture and success was A+ stuff
I was thinking about this a little more. I think one reason it’s there is due to the pacing of the film. I think if you had no idea there were vampires or any supernatural elements to the film it would pull you out even more when those elements start to appear since It takes a while before the main vampire even shows up on screen. It sets the tone pretty well.
I watched it again tonight and my theater was full. What I wish we had is another scene with the Native Americans after Remmick. Or how he got away. But maybe there will be a prequel!
“Dumb” is the last thing I’d call it. There are a few aspects to the horror elements that are too simple/lazy (e.g., the Asian woman inviting the vampires in, or the vampires simply not keeping track of when the sun was coming up), but even those still serve the more important thematic elements of the story.
Got back from this a little earlier today, I enjoyed it! I almost wanna say I enjoyed the first half of the movie before it turned into a vampire film more, really nice set up with the characters! But the vampire half is very fun too, loved the Irish jig scene Of course the main message I took from the film is that the Irish are evil. Kidding, but between the head vampire and the specifically IRISH beer that made Delta choke during the garlic scene and it getting that other dude killed when they thought it was blood at first, makes you think eh?
