Despite being a frequent movie theater goer, I was just oblivious to this coming out until my friend told me about it last week. I then started seeing all of the hype and decided I had to see it so I went opening night. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt a collective buzz like that before a movie. Everyone was excited. I really enjoyed it, although admittedly it didn’t quite hit the level I was anticipating. I think partly due to that hype, but also because my personal life is a mess and the stress has wrecked me. It has caused some prolonged depersonalization episodes that in turn just take me out for days, and so I found myself just having a hard time focusing at times during this. I left there thinking, I need to watch that again someday. I think I’ll really like it now that I know the pacing and everything. Then I got home and found out I left too quickly and missed the credit scenes. So I decided I couldn’t wait for someday and went back on Sunday to watch it again. Damn, I am glad I did. I enjoyed it so much more. The music, the tension, the characters and their histories, all of it. It all landed so much harder and I was able to notice so much more. It had me in tears at times. In a world where movie theaters are now dominated by sequels, prequels, and other new entries into franchises, it felt really exciting to see something brand new, and have it be so inventive and beautiful. Just one of those movies that makes you remember why you love them so much in the first place.
this was unreal. sexy, funny, fucked up and scary as hell. From Dusk til Dawn with an actual message and a 200x hotter cast ( Hailee as a vampire is hotter than anybody should ever rightfully be). truly was not a second I wasn't fully locked into this especially once the message really clicked and I realised what the vampires were we'll probably be talking about That Scene for years and rightly so, but I just wanna highlight that ending montage while Smoke was trying to roll a cig. shit had me choking back sobs
Really excited about this. For those who caught it in IMAX, would you say it's worth seeking out in that format? My nearest IMAX screen is about 90 minutes away, but I've got a free weekend and wouldn't mind heading down there to catch it if it's worth it over a general screening.
This was very good. The vampire aspect did not 100% work for me, but I didn’t hate it either. The first, I guess we’d call it a music video scene, was absolutely incredible. As was the vampire Irish jig. Delroy Lindo is an absolute national treasure. The credits scene absolutely tied the whole story together for me. It’s a shining example of how you can use do a “post credit” scene and have it work narratively. Someone call Patrick H Wilems. I did think I was about to see Buddy Guy stab a vampire with his guitar though. That would have been wild.
Got tickets for Tuesday. Haven’t even seen a trailer for this but I’ve picked up on the hype. I trust in Coogler.
I am going to find time to see this again soon. It's giving me hope that something like this can still get people excited to go to the movies and naturally build word of mouth. Sorry Ted Sarandos, maybe if you put some of your better movies in a theater it would mean more culturally
