That Boss Baby meme doesn’t quite track when Coogler started with Marvel and sports films, so that is the primary influence he’s bringing to the table. Whether or not that influence appeals to you, or if you don’t really notice it, I don’t care! I was just observant enough to point it out when it first released. Now months later, viewers change their tune saying similar things that I did and it’s sweet vindication.
Like several others have said that can apply to the look of the movie but no one has expanded on how the plotting and writing is like an MCU movie. I can say the plotting and writing reminded me of Lynch but if I don’t expand on that then who cares.
I don't think I'd ever recommend MD as the first Lynch for anyone. I've only seen it once and find it a bit impenetrable, and I'm a pretty big fan of everything else I've seen of his.
yeah that's what grimace said too lol. blank check was covering him and i had always heard it was the "best of the decade/century/whatever" type of movie so i went for it
not a good intro to Lynch, I'd agree. a masterpiece though impenetrable is another way of saying timeless. that shit gets better with every watch and still never explains itself
Accidentally posted this in a hellthread that Josh’s above quote apparently took me to: My first Lynch was Eraserhead and it changed my life. I showed it to my high school friends knowing they would hate it but they were all I had and I needed to share. They hated it, but that’s still where I would tell someone to start with Lynch simply because of the impact it had on me at the time. The slightly more accessible place to start would be Blue Velvet.
My first lynch was the show which I do think is the best jumping off point but I went chronologically with his movies when blank check did the mini
If we are just starting with movies, I think wild at heart is the best jumping off point. Big stars and most similar to movies from his peers that are slightly more recognizable. Definitely his most accessible good film
One day! My wife fell off of the show so I'm watching solo, and any time I find myself in the mood for something like that I gravitate towards a movie instead. I like it enough and I know FWWM and the revival are masterpieces, I just can't motivate myself to get through season 2.
Tough it out, I promise it’s worth it. Season 2’s middle rough patch is hard the first time around, but I’ve softened to it a lot. I view it as a calm before the storm. Some really excellent stuff hidden in there. The last stretch of s2 is incredible. That finale, man.
