Idk on first listen that track was an outlier but not one that was so different as to not be a good album closer imo just wouldn't work anywhere else. Also great review @Zac Djamoos always a good read
Thank you Emmanuel! If we're talking least favorite tracks, mine's cork of worry. I still enjoy it, but I think it's a bit underwhelming as a closer
this is alright but I'm a little underwhelmed after all the hype. It's nice but not much outside of Dogs really grabs me.
It's cool on first listen. I got some Relient K vibes at times? But I will echo the whole not entirely loving the production sentiment. It seems pretty bright and harsh to me.
First impression of this was very positive. I can see this occupying a similar space in my musical listening as Cardinal did in 2016 (they're even roughly the same length with the same amount of tracks, and they came out right around the same time of the year). Not that it is similar sonically to that record at all, just in terms of how they affect me.
I haven't had time to give it the amount of repeat listens I want to but I definitely enjoy this a lot and know it's gonna get better for me
I've said it multiple times already, but I seriously encourage people to listen to this a few times (especially with lyrics) before giving up on it
Yeah, you're not wrong, but this one in particular was rerecorded twice or smth which seems out of the ordinary to me
Shattered to say this just isn't clicking with me at the moment. Other than the two pre-release tracks, nothing's really jumping out - except the cliche 'penultimate acoustic track' which doesn't seem to go anywhere. Maybe I need to try reading along with the lyrics while listening.
this record sounding so bad makes it a slog to get through, plus with all the other great records that came out i just haven't wanted to give any time to this
I think you're right. Yeah the very first thing I noticed was that I hated the production but I still managed to enjoy it. I'm on the last track now. This is actually the first album from 2017 that I've listened to... what have I been oblivious to?
this has been the most stacked january i can remember in order of my preference so far: cloud nothings, the xx, allison crutchfield, japandroids, heat, oso oso, priests, julie byrne, code orange, dryjacket
yeah, the production on this is one area in which it's sorely lacking but I really think the songs are strong enough that it manages not to bring it down that much for me. It's just kinda confusing to me that after all that time spent, re-recording it and everything, that it came out sounding so... lackluster and, honestly, weird. I love this band and album a lot though, and really want the best for them. I expect their next record to be even better.
