Checked this out last night because I've seen it recommended all over the site and I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. It wasn't bad or anything but nothing stood out to me either. I'll admit I didn't give it my full attention, since I was playing Madden while listening, but that's nothing new for me checking out an album for the first time. Usually I know if an album is something I'll keep coming back to l if I find myself pausing my game to check a song title so I don't forget to come back to a song or to even replay a song immediately, and nothing on here made me want to do that. I will come back to it at some point, but I want to check out some other artists I've seen mentioned around the site first.
This record takes multiple listens to grow! Don't give up on it, I was really disappointed on my first few listens too, now it's on steady rotation. Review: Sinai Vessel - 'Brokenlegged' - The Alternative
Gotta say I've liked this less every time I've listened to it, unfortunately. Production grates for me for whatever reason (which is odd, production 'sound' isn't usually a factor for me) and I can't kick the feeling I've heard this style so much better somewhere else a number of times. Enjoyable listen overall, but not something I'll be returning to all that often. All that being said, lyrically there are some real stunners here. The "idyll/idle/idol" thing continues to impress.
Ha, so I actually really like this record now. Whoops. The mixing/production legitimately hurts my ears at times though.
This really clicked with me over the past few days. They do a lot of things I like and do them well. The production isn't ideal but the songs are there and they make it up for it imo.
Ha, fair enough, this has happened to me with other albums as well. Not really this one though? Like I have complaints but ultimately I can count on one hand the amount of times production of an album has kept me from enjoying it at all
Haha, I'm just joking. I get the gripes, now that I've listened to the album while browsing this thread, but tomorrow it'll be like I never knew. Because I didn't. Know, I mean.
I don't get the hate on the production. It's not amazing but I don't understand why people think it's bad. Also they are a band that sometimes takes awhile to get into. I listened to them and actually walked out of the house the first time I saw them. It wasn't until a later show that it really clicked.
It was a house show in the middle of August with no AC. It was more that I didn't enjoy it enough to sit in that sauna through the entire set. They moved the Pinegrove solo set to the back yard for this reason.
