I’m wholly unsurprised at the recent waterfall of sexual assault allegations for musicians that write songs targeted at teen girls. I’m sure there’s 97372947292 more that we “don’t know” about.
My perception of that band was blown when in 2002 I'm Just a Kid came out and I found out a 23 year old wrote that song. At the time I was 15 and listening to a lot of music written by mostly teenagers.
Nah, Mark Hoppus wrote what’s my age again at 27. Tom wrote about fkn a dog. Some people have to do strange shit to make money. Their fans were tweens and teens. Doesn’t make blink pedos.
Blink 182 was clearly a humorous band writing songs about dick and fart jokes and not taking themselves seriously at all. Simple Plan was writing songs catered to tweens/early teens. I mean, there was a huge difference in context. I'm not saying Simple Plan singing those songs connects them to any gross stuff, just that it was odd. Maybe it was just catering/selling out for sure.
Not defending Dave. You do realize they themselves were young when writing those songs and most musicians especially full time touring musicians do lack maturity and stay stuck in a young persons perspective so while you maybe be 23 writing I’m just a kid still very much feel connected to still feeling like your in high school. Most people in these bands barely finish high school or don’t so their brain stays stuck there. Again not talking about what Dave, just talking about maturity level and song writing.
I'm not surprised about the allegations as he always struck me as super creepy on stage even if it was supposed to be a joke. Same with the With Confidence dude. I'm surprised it only came out now after him being in a band with the same guys for 20 years. Makes me think they covered for him or at least chose to ignore it. They couldn't not have known.
Tom DeLonge was 26 when he sang a song with the chorus "I'm always nervous on days like this like the prom"
Not that I know of. Was just referring to when it happened and how I wasn’t surprised based on his on stage demeanour.
He at least hasn't been part of their live shows since 2017, but they cited different reasons for him not being there back then. Makes me guess that they've known for several years but weren't able to kick him out for contractual reasons.
He's been part of their shows since then. He was at Warped Tour last year in New Jersey. There was some time he wasn't playing with them citing mental problems I believe but he for sure played with them since 2017.
