Sacrifice and The Artist are some of may favorites from them so these two songs I hope to see face off.
Current Tally: Good Luck With Your Lives: 5 Intervention: 6 Replace You: 6 Forget Your Heart: 5 Sacrifice: 8 Darling Harbour: 3 Texas Mickey: 6 In Memory Of: 5 Not sure we’ve ever had such tight matches before.
This was pretty easy for me I prefer heavier Silverstein on this album so I chose Intervention first, Forget Your Heart is incredibly well produced and is melodically excellent, Sacrifice is one of my least favorite Silverstein songs so I instantly voted it out, and Texas Mickey is my favorite from the album
Good Luck With Your Lives Vs Intervention - really could've gone either way on this one. Replace You Vs Forget Your Heart - Does anyone else prefer the acoustic version of Replace You (from Transitions EP) to the original? The album version just seems way to sped up/rushed sounding to me. Darling Harbour Vs Sacrifice - hardest one, love both songs. ugh, I really didn't like picking...guess I'm gonna have to make a sacrifice. In Memory Of Vs Texas Mickey - Texas Mickey is a banger, but In Memory Of is just so lyrically intense, especially knowing the backstory.
Love Replace You (Acoustic), but I opted for Forget Your Heart because it's much better than the album version of Replace You. Now that piano version of Forget Your Heart!!
Current Nighttime Tally: Good Luck With Your Lives: 7 Intervention: 6 Replace You: 6 Forget Your Heart: 7 Sacrifice: 9 Darling Harbour: 4 Texas Mickey: 7 In Memory Of: 6 I think our record is 14-15 votes and given how close 3 are I think we’ll give this one the 24 hours.
Idk if I prefer the acoustic Replace You but I remember finding the electric version jarring and off putting at first. It has grown on me a lot. What’s the story behind IMO?
Shane wrote it about his cousin and going back to Canada (Toronto?) for his funeral...he died I think when he was 25 and had a wife and a young son. I wish I could remember where I heard/read it because he talked more about it I believe. Speaking of cool Silverstein stories, did you or anyone else listen to the Idobi Radio interview that Silverstein did? It was I think 4 episodes that were over 2 hours long each but I wanted more...it was right after Neil left the band too, I remember that. Anyways, I thought that was so neat and I wish more bands would do in-depth retrospectives like that.
I guess now knowing that, the song doesn’t really hide it. Pretty up front; that’s heavy stuff. One of my favorite Silverstein songs for sure, especially the outro I think is brilliantly done. Not familiar with it. Definitely gonna have to track it down though, that sounds sweet.
I loved those podcasts. The band has always done a good job documenting the history and the workings of the band. I first noticed that with my copy of Shipwreck that came with the behind the scenes of the recording of the album. Decade's interviews in between songs were great, I recall the liner notes in 18 Candles having a handful of stories as well, and the recent video stuff has of course been well done. Also just struck me that we have arrived at Neil's era of the band. A really underrated guitar player in the scene who really shaped what the sound would be when he joined.
Intervention (kind of a tough choice, this gets the edge) Forget Your Heart (Replace You is one of the weaker songs on the album for me) Sacrifice (both this and Darling Harbour are pretty weak imo) In Memory Of (another tough choice, but both for quality reasons).
It is time to move on, congrats on hitting 15 votes, team! Our winners: Good Luck With Your Lives: 7 Intervention: 8 Replace You: 7 Forget Your Heart: 8 Sacrifice: 10 Darling Harbour: 5 Texas Mickey: 8 In Memory Of: 7 Personally I am flabbergasted that GLWYL didn’t crush intervention. GL is one of their absolute best guitar songs! And if it weren’t for TM’s bridge I would’ve expected it to get crushed as well. But alas, here we are: Intervention Vs Forget Your Heart Sacrifice Vs Texas Mickey Begin!
