This album is so good. They sort of wrote the perfect pop punk song with Afterglow. Also The End is so easily my favorite song of theirs, one of my favorite songs of all time.
If you told me a decade ago that Silverstein would be one of the most consistent, quality bands of their generation, I'd probably have chuckled at you. And yet, here we are.
After relistening to the whole discography, I will update my ranking. 1. This is How the Wind Shifts 2. Shipwreck in the Sand 3. Dead Reflection 4. I Am Alive in Everything I Touch 5. Discovering the Waterfront 6. Rescue 7. Arrivals and Departures 8. Short Songs 9. When Broken is Easily Fixed Rescue was better than I remembered. I give it a slight edge over Arrivals. I feel bad for putting Discovering the Waterfront at 5, but it's just because their albums are all so great! Only one I don't like that much is Broken, but it's probably because it sounds bad.
Still listening to this so much. Favorite songs change every few days, though cut and run remains bottom tier. Surprisingly enough I don't listen to retrograde too much either. Surging into AOTY for me nevertheless.
Same, such a great album. Retrograde has actually really grown on me and I now love it. Cut and run remains my least favorite also.
Cut and run has a terrific bridge, but while the main chorus melody isn't bad those woahs are so awkward
kind of funny that you guys have been saying you don't really like Cut and Run. It's not necessarily my favorite, but I woke up this morning with it stuck in my head and I've been humming it for the last 2 hours or so haha.
This record is just so good! The way he sings some of the lyrics is so gut-wrenching. He sings them with such sincerity and heartbreak in his voice. The way he sings "Lying is letting you go" gets me every time. I wish I had this record when I went through my divorce.
This is crazy specific, but favorite singing moments: "Lying is letting you go" "Long talks with the dial tone...I see your ghost" "It's not a diamond, it's aquamarine" "I just wanna be okay" & "why should I forgive you" "Everything you said echoing in my head" "It made them love me even more and made me hate myself" "Neon signs and my hands are freezing" "End is now, end is here"
Listening on the way into work this morning, this one stuck out to me: "Fall on your knees and remove the sorrow Return the piece of my heart you borrowed"
"Closed my eyes and I tried to remember All the things that had brought us together here" really hit me in the feels
I got to meet Shane at Warped the other day and told him how much I love and connect to the lyricism in the record, and he said "Thank you so much, you have no clue how much that means after the hell I went through writing it" (or something to that effect)
