1. Confession 2. Skin and Bones 3. Don't Let Me Get Too Low 4. A Little Fight 5. I Will Destroy This 6. Mercy Mercy 7. Cherry Coke 8. Stress Is probably how I'd rank them at the moment.
I think their more poppy turn has come off as disingenuous and feels like they are just changing to stay relevant rather than evolve naturally, which is a bummer. I also feel like as has been stated before me the riffs have been lacking. They used to be one of the better post hardcore bands, with really solid riffs and guitar parts and now it just feels like they’re going through the motions and not challenging themselves musically.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. tons of bands keep their sound and still have sizeable fanbases, bayside, trio, menzingers, senses fail, etc maybe some of you have just outgrown the band in general because for me Silverstein are still crushing it \m/
Speaking of riffs, I was listening to Shipwreck recently (still my fave) and the Vices verse riff goes hard af still
senses fails a funny example because they did eventually reinvent themselves drastically with renacer, and since pivoting back to the same old so many of their fans complain that theyre just trying to recapture the glory days that said i think this bands sound has changed up quite a bit. theyre obv not like u2 levels of diverse or anything but they havent really repeated themselves all that often outside of i am alive
I am fully aware and content with the fact that I’ve personally out grown them and it just isn’t for me anymore. But I’d argue the “if it it ain’t broke don’t fix it” doesn’t work for Silverstein because imo their change drastically changed after Dead Reflection.
I wouldn’t say drastically. Sure they tried some new elements, but it’s still their sound at the core. But obviously, we have different ears and hear different things.
yeah and I definitely don’t knock it. It’s not BAD music by any means. There have been a few songs off each album I’ve enjoyed since.
Skin & Bones showcases all sides of Silverstein at their best Stress is becoming one of my favorite heavy Silverstein songs
Skin and bones really is a classic Silverstein track. The only critique I have is the vocal effect on the final “skin and bones” of the first chorus. It takes a classic Silverstein track and smushes in a tacky radio rock trope.
Agreed. Feel like it’s a classic Silverstein song through the lens of the modern stuff they are doing. Also agree on the vocal effect, it’s almost so corny that it works haha
I've really been enjoying this album for a "jogging at the gym" record. I've liked songs here and there throughout their career but never clicked with a full Silverstein album. I'm sure this one is not their best to long-time fans, but it's a cool listen when I'm looking for something heavy with solid production. I've never really dabbled into whatever genre you would call them now, is it metalcore? I guess what I'm trying to say is I really like the production here and if anybody wants to throw out recs of other Silverstein I need to listen to now or other bands with similar vibes, I'd be down for that convo. Thanks in advance if anyone is interested in doing that, just trying to build up my gym playlists
i'd start with discovering the waterfront, check out when broken is easily fixed then listen up to i am alive in everything i touch to avoid their newer sound if it's not for you.
My ranking after 40 or so listens 1. Stress 2. Dont Let Me Get to Low 3. I Will Destroy This 4. Confession 5. Skin and Bones 6. Cherry Coke 7. Mercy Mercy 8. A Little Fight Even though A Little Fight is last on the list, I still love every song on the album. Cant wait for Pink Moon
Flip Destroy and Stress and this is my exact ranking, though A Little Fight would be higher if it were longer. Absolutely love the melody.
Confession I will destroy this Cherry coke Skin and bones A little fight Stress Don’t let me get too low Mercy mercy hard for me to make a good linear ranking, I really do l like every song here, and in a sense the softer songs steal the show because I think Shane knocks the melodies out of the park, but that’s still probably the best categorization
Revisited this album tonight and nothing has changed for me. Don’t Let Me Get Too Low, Mercy, and Stress are the only tracks I actually like. Oh well.
Been on a Silverstein kick today and throw back / shout out to the boys who did this legendary reimagining of their own song
