not sure if im stoked for a nu metal song lmao but curious how thisll all shake out for sure. also echo that they havent really done anything for me since dead reflection outside of like two songs off the last album

  4. the riff is just very nu-metal late era BMTH type shit - it's heavy as fuck and fun

I own every release they have, and have pre-ordered this EP.

Nu-metal, however, is a trigger word to me. Possibly the least creative genre nowadays. Heavy chug chug intro with electronic elements, forgettable non-melodic screamed or spoken verse, very melodic chorus, repeat, heavy breakdown, end.

Expectations went further down a notch. Hopefully they prove me wrong. Any faster punk/melodic hardcore on this, or songs with actual cool guitar parts? Or is it just more of the same modern formulaic metal?

  6. Didn't you just describe modern metalcore though

I guess I did. Maybe I'm just old and bitter and miss the good old days. :D

  8. When I think of them doing nu metal, I expect something like their collab with Princess Nokia. Unless they lean harder into the genre and it ends up sounding like Linkin Park considering they've been playing One Step Closer for so long at this point. Curious, but not really looking forward to it.

I also miss their pre-Dead Reflection core sound but I guess they probably had done everything they could with it and it was time to switch things up.

they definitely picked the right time to shake things up, was going through their discog again when they announced this and i swear it gets to a point where youve heard the same melodies multiple times across the first 8 albums, there was only so much they could do

is the switch up post dead reflection what i had mind though? not at all haha i brutally struggle with drown and misery, but these singles are okay

hm yeah this one still isnt really for me either unfortunately but it was worth the price of admission for mercy mercy at least. that + skin and bones are my two takeaways. do think its more solid than the previous two albums at least, and recognizably a lot less linear, but theres still a pretty big gulf of quality for me between it and oldstein

I think this is pretty great but it does feel short. I wonder if it'll be clear when we get the second one why they split them up.

I think the only song I don't really care for is "Stress" but even that's solid.

was on an interview tear last week when i mistakenly thought this was supposed to drop and shane said the albums arent really that deliberately separated and that any song on either album could belong on the other, but that he prefers pink moon

also he brought up the nu metal right away when talking about stress so that was a spot on observation haha

Lol, definitely an odd choice to split them up then.

How are you all listening to this already? Did it drop on streaming or did you get advanced copies or pre-orders already?

Digging this. Heavier then I expected given the last few albums have moved away from the post hardcore stuff they were so good at.

This is better than I thought it would be. Definitely sounds like the band's exploring the extremes of their sound. Excited to see if this one grows on me even more with repeated listens.

to give em a little credit i think the decision to split it more so came from the high volume of songs that came from these sessions and the anxiety over condensing it down to a single lp. why they did two separate albums instead of one 2 disc release, idk, but it sounds like the idea was first pitched as two separate albums so might be simple as that

i think he said that to emphasize that its not like, some thrice alchemy index type beat

I'm just imagining the second album is probably a similar length which would make the two of them together around 46 mins which is pretty average. Maybe the second one is significantly longer in which case it would make a little more sense.

yeah i am surprised that their solution to "we don't want to have to trim this 24 song batch down to 12 songs" wasnt to just release two 12 track albums, but this bands stylistic choices this last half decade shows that i dont entirely understand their decision making anyway

This is a really fun record, although it really feels more like an EP than a proper album. The heavier tracks push their sound a bit to the edges without losing the Silverstein identity.

They're my favorite band, so I can't fully dislike anything about a Silverstein project, but the song "A Little Fight" sounds totally like "Take On Me" to a distracting extent. The chorus rips, but the verses are dead-on lol.

Even more baffling considering this album is only 8 songs. They could've totally made it a 16 song album and no one would bat an eye, lol.
