Silverstein - A Beautiful Place To Drown (March 6, 2020) Album • Page 2

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by beachdude, Jan 8, 2020.

  1. Meh. Gives me Our Last Night vibes, especially during the higher notes in the chorus. Can't say the thought of a more radio rock-y direction excites me, but we'll see. Those features are intriguing to say the least.

What I came here to comment on. Simple Plan is truly awful lol.

This is definitely going to be a radio-rock record, which isn't really what I want (Dead Reflection FTW), but I ain't mad at it and who cares what I want anyways lol

It also makes sense given the current state of this genre.

Anyways, fingers crossed for some serious bangers on this one! Artwork is cool.

I won't be mad at it if it's all that kind of radio rock but I also probably won't listen to it much.

I'm hoping there's a few great songs at least.

I like some of it, but honestly I miss the background screaming being higher in the mix during the verses

  6. New single is fine. Don't know how much I'll like this album, but I'm interested to hear the new directions they take.

Still like Burn It Down a lot.

Don’t care for the new single after several listens.

However, this version of Burn It Down sounds better.

Must have listened to the new song 15 times since it came out

  9. I think the new song is a nice change of pace for the band

Paul Marc's little modulated guitar riff in the chorus is so cool. I get some people don't like it, but this isn't too big of a shift in style and the songwriting is as strong as always.

Idk, maybe the energy amd melodies aren't as strong as most of Silverstein's discography but like, most of their discography is 9/10's & 10/10's. This is like an 8/10, in the context of the rest of the post-hardcore scene, and y'know? That's fine.

Yea this wasn’t nearly as much of a departure as I expected. Sounds like ghost and retrograde. They’ve done a pretty good job prepping us for a long time, so even though I tell myself I don’t want a pop record, they’re really good at it and I know I’ll love it.
That said, definitely miss the watercolor album covers.

Yeah, I didn't enjoy this much. Hoping it grows on me but US radio rock is not really my thing.

Infinite is growing on me but Burn It Down is so... cookie-cutter radio rock to me. Hopefully, the rest of the record does not feel like that.

I actually really like Burn It Down. It is radio-rock, but Shane’s vocals make it work.

Also "Radio Rock" is kind of an oxymoron in 2020.

Like you have bands like Cage The Elephant & Walk The Moon trying to do the whole Alternative thing and will maybe get a song on the radio if the guitats aren't too high in the mix. Then maybe the "Rock/Metal" stations will play Breaking Benjamin or I Prevail if they take a break from playing 90's Nirvana & Metallica on repeat.

But the vast majority of new songs I hear on the Rock Radio sound more like Twenty One Pilots & Imagine Dragons than anything Silverstein has done. I mean I heard Billie Eilish & Post Malone on my local "Metal" station the other day, so yeah.

I feel like "radio rock" is just a nice way of saying generic but honestly, having a baseline song that isn't trying to be a massive statement is fine, as long as the songwriting as good, which Silverstein's is, so like :/
