Going to listen while playing Tears of the Kingdom tonight. This weekend has been occupied by the new King Gizzard and Queens of the Stone Age.
Love this, which isn’t surprising, I basically love everything they’ve done. Going to spin this a ton next weekend while driving through the forests up north on a mini road trip.
Posted my thoughts in the other thread, but I was underwhelmed by this. Obviously going to spend more time with it in the hopes that it grows on me
Still have the same feelings as a lot of you here, but I'm really positive for sure, I had it on my headphones during the weekend while walking through one of my favorite cities here in Poland, with storm clouds approaching, really made my day. It is beautiful. But still a bit underwhelming - not mad though, cause I wasn't even expecting an album from them last wednesday
That’s where I’m at. It’s a beautiful album, but my favorite songs are the ones that are more full, with percussion—Klettur and 8. Wish there was more of that. But damn we are lucky to get an album at all.
You really should never look at YouTube comments but I made that mistake on some Sigur Ros video recently and it was pretty funny to see a bunch of idiots applauding them for what they took as an anti-Pride statement on their album art, 100% seriously as far as I can tell. Like uhhh let me tell you a little secret about Jonsi that is very much not a secret and handily discredits that particular conspiracy theory!
This...could be my favorite Sigur Ros album? Lol. Not sure if it tops Agaetis Byrjun yet, but I'm going through a particularly stressful period at work and I'm been listening every morning. It's so calming and gorgeous.
It is still pretty bottom tier SR for me (which is NOT to say it’s bad) but I did listen this morning on my way to work in the rain, and it was the most I’ve enjoyed it so far.
I think I’ll need winter for this to fully click (not really the record’s fault, that’s just when I listen to them the most) but I really enjoy it, there is some gorgeous stuff here. Klettur is my favorite track so far.
I would honestly place it among the best SR records. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I first listened, just completely swept me away. It’s definitely my preference if I were to compare to ÁTTA (just bc they’re both ambient) but there’s no reason to not enjoy both
not to pivot the thread to a discussion on it of any sort and I haven’t looked super closely at the cover art but what is it? To me it does look like some type of flag or banner or something with “rainbow colors” with it either being on fire or a fire in front of it and after seeing far too many stupid videos of people foaming at the mouth in Target’s about rainbows being on everything I thought “oh boy, that’s a cover” but knowing the band and their history I knew it wasn’t THAT but then never really looked closer at it or tried to search out an answer.
Yeah idk, it’s a very striking image even divorced from context. Probably looks different to European eyes than it does to us right now; slightly less brainworms over there
Well, it's a violent cover artwork, we obviously know the band doesn't stand for it, but it's about something that is still prevalent in the world. We had one of our biggest rainbows in Warsaw burned down by some bigots/idiots, I think even a couple times, before they had to dismantle the installation. Really sad and off-putting behavior. I think it makes up for a great cover, but the message can be unclear for outside people.
Klettur and Gold are probably my standouts here, I could see myself coming back to these more often than the whole album
‘I felt violated. It was a dark period for all of us’: Sigur Rós on their nightmarish recent years He’s thinking of leaving LA. “America is so crazy,” he says. “Trans and queer and gay rights have been trampled on so much recently. It’s scary to see. Around the world also, it feels like we’re going backwards.” Átta’s artwork, by the veteran Icelandic artist Rúrí, depicts a rainbow flag in flames. “We try to stay out of politics, just to make the music as neutral as possible, but we were talking about the state of the world we live in now: climate change and doomscrolling. You see all the psychopaths spending crazy amounts of money going to space when they could be saving our planet we are actually living on at the moment. It’s so unbelievably ridiculous!
Sorry to bump the thread with no news, but listening to the Hvarf/Heim EP now. Their early stuff is so perfect. This has to be one of the best bands ever. I hope if they ever make another proper album it’s a little more dynamic than Átta, but I’ll take whatever they give me tbh.
