What a surprise, I stayed up at night to listen to this on headphones, beautiful of course, though I need to dive deeper and see if there's much going on with those songs ;d ;d
One of my favorite first-time listening sessions in recent memory. I might be in the minority on this, but I almost wonder if I will like this album less with more listens. This band's albums have never grown on me. After the surprising heaviness of Kveikur, I distinctly remember not vibing with it as much after repeated listens. This album could be different, but for some reason, I need to limit my time with them.
Just listened to it once so far. I like but not love it. I agree with @indecipherable’s take. It’s nice and beautiful but seems kinda forgettable. I had the same feeling about Jónsi’s Obsidian album. Maybe it’ll grow on me like Valtari did
It’s certainly not an ordinary Sigur Ros album, and I’m trying to view it through the lens of it being an ambient album. I can tell little is meant to stand out and it’s instead something that envelops a moment, or plays understatedly in the background. That said, it’s strangely disappointing while also undeniably beautiful—its weightlessness leaves me constantly wanting more. I was hoping for something more in the vein of Riceboy Sleeps when I heard it’d be ambient. It’s a very minimal record even for it being that. I did really love the absolutely gorgeous last song which stood out to me, but I guess that’s because there’s percussion on that one. I’m pretty torn. Got to listen to this again soon.
almost halfway in and this is Sigur Rós with full orchestral backing and the mastery of surging, sweeping melodies they have long since made their trademark. It just sounds fucking gigantic and I'm so here for it. Wow.
I’m honestly not very into this, unfortunately. It’s fine, it’s pretty, and I’m glad the band is active, but it’s just not doing for me what most of their other stuff does. I do love the single, and Klettur is pretty great too.
no I absolutely love this front to back they've never missed since Agætis byrjun, so happy they're back
Second and third listens have been just as rewarding. My tastes the last couple of years have skewed more towards the ambient genre so maybe this is why it's clicking so much for me. Bummed that their Minneapolis show is sold out--I never saw the announcement for it. Not sure how many shows they have left in them.
