Jonsi is releasing a triple album next week. https://consequenceofsound.net/2018/11/jonsi-frakkur-triple-album
Received this press release email this morning. Looks like Sigur Ros is creating an “endless ambient mixtape,” and 3 separate playlists from it (with new songs and remixes) are now available on streaming. Excited to dive in today.
I just got into this band. I know, I know I’m way behind. They’re incredible. I’ve been stuck on Kveikur and genuinely love everything about it. Can anyone in here give me pointers on how to go about listening to the rest of their discography?
I'd suggest starting at Ágætis byrjun and listening forward. Go back to Von if you want to listen to everything. Also, check out Jonsi's solo album!
I think Takk is a good first album, though you could probably start at Agaetis Byrjun. That album changed my outlook on life when I was a teenager.
I actually started listening to Takk as well (so good!) but have been so in love with Kveikur that I want to keep taking it in. Also listened to part of () which I actually did hear a bit of a while back. I almost wanted to save Ágætis Byrjun for last because of what I’ve heard about it being their masterpiece.
I think Kveikur calls back to the darker vibes of Von & Ágætis Byrjun, or at least emphasizes those sounds and expands on them. I’m also really into Valtari.
Ágætis byrjun is otherworldly. I think the climax in Viðrar vel til loftárása is my favorite moment in their discography.
