The album 'Odin’s Raven Magic' is an orchestral collaboration between Sigur Rós, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, Steindór Andersen and Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir which premiered 18 years ago at the Barbican Centre in London and is now finally almost two decades later being released. The performance honours the poem, dramatic and beautiful, classical and contemporary. A stone marimba was built especially for the performance by Páll Guðmundsson.

Odin’s Raven Magic - the poem - had been relegated from mainstream ancient literature ever since 1867, when Norwegian scholar Sophus Bugge claimed it was a 17th century fabrication. This theory has since been toppled with literary and linguistic arguments and new research has concluded that Odin’s Raven Magic was indeed authentic and has finally been reintroduced to the Edda.

Guess it's on their bandcamp too. So while it "premiered" 18 years ago, does that mean it was recorded 18 years ago?

Album really shouldn’t be called a Sigur Rós album. Not worth a listen, guys.

Most of it is v dark, orchestral drone... Jonsi joins in a couple times but most of the vocals are handled by someone else and they are just oooh’s and aaaah’s or other wordless melodies. I wasn’t a fan of the dude’s voice either. When the crescendos come, they are welcome shifts... but they all sound similar. I was pretty disappointed. I did listen to Agaetis Byrjun before listening to this one, and that might’ve amplified my disappointment. It’s possible some of yall might dig it, but I think going in expecting a traditional Sigur Rós album affected my enjoyment of this

Also worth noting i do love lots of drone, as well as the more ambient stuff they’ve released prior to this. Riceboy Sleeps is a favorite ambient album of mine. This was cold and felt very lifeless (maybe this is the intent), and lacked a certain magic for me.
