We reach for the longest shadow

Bad Life is honestly a banger outside of Oli’s voice, which makes it all the more frustrating.

  2. that prick's feature has killed all interest I had in this record and I hate it. I never need to hear that song. Retcon it with a solo or single version please Sigrid!

Yeah I would replace the studio version with that version of Bad Life immediately if I could.

not going to link to it, but Stereogum just posted a really, really WTF-worthy article about Sigrid, not even really about the album, but about her... and to put it mildly, it's very poorly written

What triggered that woman to compel her to want to write that piece of trash? Yeah, the music on this album might not be up to the standard of her first, but lyrically she's still simply speaking from her experience, which will connect with millions of fans. This "journalist" simply wanted to generate clicks for Sterogum

    The rivalry is back on

its a shame that people still talk about pop music this way (and that major publications endorse it) in the year 2022

The Pitchfork review of this also kind of sucks. Why is the writing about this album so bad?

it's so weird, in both cases it feels like they just weren't content with just saying that they don't like the album as much as the debut, but then force in some larger narrative and story for no reason. It's like music reviews can't be just about the music anymore

Both of them, I was just thinking "Why was this the angle you chose to write about this music?" I honestly think most music writing is bad these days.

100% agree. I really haven't ever been a big fan of reviews in general, BUT lately it's gotten way worse

I've gotten to the point where I only write about something if it really moves me, or if I feel like I have a good, unique angle on it. So I can sympathize with writers casting around for things to say about something, whether because it got assigned to them or because they're working critics who need to get paid for this work and will therefore pitch a bunch of different reviews for things that they are only passingly interested in. But man, I can always tell when a writer just had nothing to say about an album, and that Pitchfork review is one such case. (The Stereogum one is different: that critic definitely had an axe to grind.)

I will say, that I definitely have noticed this from you and they are honestly maybe the only reviews I even read haha. Maybe just because I know you and know that I appreciate your writing at this point, but I definitely recognize that conscious decision you have made in your writing and am into it.

Thanks, I appreciate that! Obviously, it's a huge barrier to ever "making it" as a music writer to be so choosy with what I actually write about, but the result is that I'm a lot proud of the music writing I actually end up doing.

I mean, I don't have a lot to say about this album except that the songs are infectiously good and I listen to them daily. Hard to get 600 words out of that though.
