Hahahaha. I don't even care if this movie is good or bad, this made me laugh: "Like “Sicario,” “Wind River,” and everything else that Taylor Sheridan has ever scripted, “Day of the Soldado” feels like it was written on a bender of whiskey and Viagra."
Ehrlich’s review was on point. It’s like just above straight for DVD movie, mainly because of Brolin and Del Toro. Pretty much anything you could forgive about the first one, due to Villenueve’s direction and Deakin’s cinematography, can’t really be absolved again. Sucks, because Sheridan was on a decent streak.
Still pumped for it. I’ve loved everything Sheridan’s done. (Though I hear his TV series is straight garbage, which is a bummer)
I caught the premiere episode yesterday. It seems promising, but there are a lot of characters in it. And some of the acting is not up to par. I noticed a few recycled lines from Sheridan’s 3 movie scripts. I’m gonna try to stay with it, but I really want Sheridan to write original film screenplays again.
congrats to this movie for having possibly the worst timing of any release, I feel kinda bad but I just have a feeling no one's going to want to watch a movie about Mexican drug cartels right know you know
I saw a commercial for this on tv where they only referred to it as Sicario. Never said Soldado or that it was a sequel a single time
Exactly what I was thinking. And this was a month or two before Trump really started hammering away at the MS-13 shit.
Watching this tonight with literally zero expectations. Apparently our prime set for tomorrow is sold out, which is surprising. I didn’t expect this to do much business.
Better than it should have been. Not great. Really started to lose me in the 3rd act and I did not like that subplot with the gangster kid
Saw it last night. Not as good as the first, obviously, but a strong action film. I really missed the moral compass that Blunt’s character provided in the first film. I’ll echo many people’s sentiments that this sequel felt unnecessary. Benicio and Josh were really strong though. Definitely worth a MoviePass. I still HATE the poster!
Thought this was pretty good, but the last half hour is very underwhelming. Also, the plot is surprisingly nonsensical considering it was written by Sheridan.
Wow, this was not good. I was so surprised when the credits rolled and I saw Taylor Sheridan. I can't think of a single scene that was note-worthy.
Obviously nowhere near as good as the first one, but I still enjoyed it. Just hope if they do a third that kid at the end isn’t the focus.
That scene where the kid walks in front of Benicio/Josh’s car and one of them makes the comment that gang members look/dress like regular kids these days and it’s harder to tell who the good kids and bad kids are... Totally contradicts the ending with the kid dressed like a gangster with tattoos. I don’t get that at all.
Concur. I didn’t hate it. Some stupid things here and there but still pretty solid. Benicio’s makeup for a while there was crazy haha. Musta been a long morning getting it ready to shoot.
I mean, the first one still exists and is just as good regardless of the quality of the sequel. 2010: The Year We Make Contact doesn’t make 2001 worse. I say watch it if you’re interested at all. It’s not a bad watch on the whole, just not as good as the first.
