But I mean if we assume one huge family crisis a season - huge enough that Fiona would uproot her life to come back, there can't be more than 2 or 3 seasons left without her. So they do it once, figure something else out the second time, and have her come back for a final episode in the last season. Idk I'm just thinking of ways they can do this that will feel natural.

Showrunner and executive producer John Wells also shared a statement saying season nine’s finale will offer “a Gallagher-worthy sendoff for Fiona.”

She has been integral to the show’s success, from her wonderful portrayal of Fiona to her leadership role on set, as well as directing multiple episodes of the series. We are hard at work now creating a season nine finale for Shameless which we hope will provide a Gallagher-worthy sendoff for Fiona that honors the great work Emmy has done. It is always bittersweet when an ensemble member decides to move out of the proverbial house, but our door will always remain open for Fiona to return home for a visit, or to move back in. I look forward to continuing the stories of this wildly unpredictable family and all of us on Shameless will miss Emmy and her wonderful Fiona.”

 

I don't see how you continue the show without Rossum. I know the UK version did but this is totally different.

 

I mean all of the people's storylines have basically drifted apart. I think it'd be interesting to see like Lip try to step into her role in the family, especially with how he has shown an interest in caring for people (i.e. the repair shop girls niece or whatever)

 

yeah, all the characters are doing their own thing, but i don’t see how they can do more than a couple more seasons. at the same time part of me thinks that Lip could carry this show on his back, and with Fiona gone this leaves a spot for him to take over and become the lead opposite Frank and hopefully start finding some success of his own like Fiona did.

 

at the same time, Fiona being a strong female lead really made the show i think. idk, i’m sure this season’s finale will be great if nothing else

I have no clue where Xan came from, Lip is just a semi foster brother for a rando kid it's weird, I like that Liam finally has storylines though

absolutely, with Carl not far behind. what Lipp did in the hospital was just so dumb

 

Yeah I’m pissed because Lip was great last season and I related to him a lot with the AA/NA shit and so far this season he’s just been dumb. I think they’re trying to set him up to take over for Fiona but it’s lame right now.

 

I’m surprised no one’s talking about Sunday night considering it was the series’ 100th episode (for those at home keeping score)

 

Honestly, I am not sure why this Lip storyline is all of a sudden the one storyline that seems dumb... it's not the greatest storyline of the show, but it's totally in line with what they have done and not out of character for him at all

 

I haven't watched this show in about 3 seasons, it was getting kinda meh for me, is it worth it to catch up? Honestly? Showtime is the king of drawing shows out way too long and this seems like the latest victim.
