I can't believe I only found out about this show today. It's one of my favorite novels, the trailer looks great, and see its getting rave reviews across the board
First ep was mostly table setting and character intro, but it was solid. Loving the production design. Will watch the second ep tonight. This Blackthorne character is a real asshole ha. Also, I didn't even recognize Nestor Carbonell at first with all that facial hair.
I rewatched that ninja assassination attempt In the castle scene at the end of episode 2 a couple times. So fucking good. Also that Ambush in the woods scene was crazy too. Makes me look forward to the full blown battle scenes we are going to get later.
TIL this has been in development for so long, and this is such a big deal for FX that 5 years ago in 2019 they paid for a single day of filming with Hiroyuki Sanada just so they could retain the rights.
Fuck i’m gonna have to dip out this thread bc i plan on reading this before watching and I still haven’t started. But it’s next on my list for sure.
Yeah they caught up to where I am in the Audiobook by episode 2. I have like 40 hours left. Gotta lot of listening to do by next week lol
Finished the second ep and I'm fully on board with this. Very into the political/religious conflict brewing, and it's great to see Hiroyuki Sanada in a top billed role like this. Always enjoy seeing him in his supporting roles.
The only slight minor criticism is there are some shots where the camera is doing that fisheye focus thing where the bottom 15% of the screen is blurry. But not a big deal though.
