Again Clavell wrote an entire shared universe that Shogun takes place in that they can do! What are they doing?
As fantastic as Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis each were in this, it's very very difficult to imagine the show without Mariko (and Fuji tbh) being anywhere near as good. Wish they'd just fleshed out the book more into several seasons (plus the epilogue) if they were going to do more than one.
the more I think about it, they can keep this story going with original scripts and still adapt the other clavell books as separate shows. in fact they'd probably have to be dumb to not greenlight more after the success of this the shows set in other eras can have easter eggs and references that confirm the events in Shogun as canon or whatever
I went to the site of the battle of Sekigahara earlier today. Very beautiful landscape. Met a very sweet older lady who owns a nearby cafe in her house called HiKOSA. We had to use a translation app but had a nice conversation about the history.
He definitely deserves one, but great to see this on practically every category. An odd amount of Mr. and Mrs. Smith nominations, damn?
Next week is the bigger/main awards like best drama etc are next week. These were just the Creative portion.
Maybe a hot take? Sanada was the least interesting part of the series to me, and without Mariko, Yabushige, Fuji, and the source material it’s based on, I’m not super optimistic about more seasons. I’ll still check it out
