Taking that as pretty bad news, to be honest. An incredible loss of talent and the defining aesthetic of the show. We'll see if they can bounce back from that
while i am a tiny bit worried, part of me thinks she's smart enough to help establish guidelines/a team so the key elements of her style can be emulated by someone else after she leaves. given the attention to detail the entire crew and creative team put into this show, i think they'll put the effort into finding a worthy replacement (especially since the aesthetic is one of the defining parts of the show).
It was a quote from an article saying Gagne was in the process of directing her first film, and that she wouldn't be back for season 3. Ben Stiller had since implied that it wasn't true so I guess that's why it's gone.
He doesn't say in what capacity but I think it's still plausible she won't DP but could direct another episode. In the same article, she said she was initially not going to do season 2 until they asked her if she wanted to direct an epsiode as well.
hmm... if he's meticulously planning out everything else but just not directing, i'm hopeful it'll still be good, but this is slightly concerning
Loosely related but few things get me less interested in a movie than a synopsis that ends in “…during WW2.”
