I told my wife after the Season 8 cliffhanger that the season 9 cliffhanger would be the same thing, just the other way around. It's gonna be a long year waiting for Season 2. EDIT: I meant Episodes, not seasons
please mark this as spoilers for season 8 and season 9. not fair to the rest of us that haven't figured out the whole time traveling thing yet
Wow. Started this show this week and finished this week. I think in 4 sittings? I don’t blow through TV like that. Loved all of it. It’s got the mystique vibes and quality of what I’m comparing it to is Westworld season 1. would Helly’s outtie not have know that she tried to hang herself since she was struggling in the elevator while it was at the surface? Those memories should have stuck with her outtie. also Lumon has a terrible security budget for both the severed floor and top floor. Wasted it all on the party at the end
She definitely knew, it’s implied that Helly’s outie is so committed to “proving” severance is safe and a positive thing to help the company and her family further it’s ultimate goal whatever that is, that she’s willing to go through with the plan knowing her innie wants to kill her. The scene with her creepy ass dad in the bathroom where he asked her if she was still in pain and thanked her for sticking with it despite “what she tried to do to you” proved it out
Copied directly from his texts: All MDRs work on a file with a code name with five bins. Each bin has level of four codes that correspond to the four feelings the numbers generate. WO: Woe FC: Frolic DR: Dread MA: Malice When the team first visit the perpetuity wing, a voice of Keir Eagan says that there are four tempers and each man has a combination of the four tempers. Woe, Frolic, Dread and malice. Resolving the four tempers with Kiers nine viruses (also the core values of Lumon) is the heart of his philosophy. (Side note, the four tempers are also symbolized by the four characters in the waffle party. Frolic: Jester Dread: Goat Malice: old woman: Woe: young woman. Or a combination thereof. Dylan was then supposed to beat the four tempers with the whip with the core values on them but didnt) So the numbers reflect portions of the tempers where are core parts of humans. So the files they are refining are somehow connected to people. Perhaps they are finding the correct level of the four tempers for these individuals so lemon can know what "buttons to press" to control them Followed by: Is that the chip, or the computer, or something, is implanting feelings INTO the MDRs. It not just severing portions of your life but, that chip is also causing you to feel emotions when exposed to certain numbers. We know that Marks wife died in a car crash. I believe that she died. Or maybe a coma? She is in a state where her only consciousness is on the severed floor. Combine these two ideas and we can see that maybe Lumon is driving their severance technology to take a body, wipe it clean, implant the memories of Keir or Elder Eagan into it and give them eternal life
definitely gives LOST-adjacent vibes in the same way The Leftovers does. Very detailed, layered, leaves room for theories, gives a little away at a time but leaves lots of mysteries, etc
Watched this whole thing in two days, I don't really have anything to add besides really echoing the praise for how fantastic this is. Really captivating story, gorgeously shot and great performances, I'm so happy for Adam Scott that he got something like this (and also for the super underrated Britt Lower)
Settled in to watch episode 7 last night. It was getting pretty late so I thought I’d just watch that episode and then go to bed. Instead just watched through to the end of the season. Literally couldn’t conjure the willpower to stop episode 8 and 9 once they autoplayed. Can’t even remember the last time that happened. Incredible show.
