She was clearly older and then she said “your mother” so I deduced that it was her aunt and not her sister
I was just about to say: HOT TAKE… …but uhhh, didn’t dig that episode. Especially considering there are only two left this season.
3/4s of the way through the episode, my wife broke our combined silence and went on a rant about how ”all that has happened is she drove through a town, went to a house, took a nap, and got high.” Lol. Not the most exciting episode but we needed it to underscore that Cobel is in fact out to fuck up Lumen’s shit now and that she has the knowledge to save Mark’s brain from being Reghabi’d. Final teams for season 2 are forming. Ready for a fucked up final two episodes.
Yeah that was a hard watch. Patricia Arquette crushed this episode, stunned by a couple of those scenes. Lumon used the hell out of her, the town, her family. Tore them apart and completely dehumanized them. Clearly she’s about to team up with Mark and Devon, here’s to hoping it actually stays that way
Soooooo Lumon had a factory in the town that made that ether drug with child labor and sold it. The Eagens, the family that ran the factory and controlled the town people as a cult, found that Harmony was a genius and put her in their special school. Jame stole her ideas and took credit, starting over in a new town as a pharmaceutical company, making their money now by selling the chips Harmony made to the army (Irving’s proof from his trunk).
remind me, but did they show that in Irving's trunk in the season finale? i knew there was armed forces regalia, but i didn't see anything suggesting that the chips were being used by the military
Then it was armed forces regalia, my bad. But that’s what I’ve been thinking for a while, since there was names on a list he had. It seemed like he was investigating Lumon for something relating to that.
no worries! it's definitely an exciting theory, and if true, it could help bridge the gap with the Lexington Letter
She kept her notes in Jame Eagan's head. Dude didn't invent shit, just Edison'd the whole thing and took all her credit
This is where I'm at. It was a well executed episode, and now I want to travel to Fogo Island, but (!), it reminded me of that Stranger Things Season 2 episode where Eleven goes on a random side-quest after a cliffhanger. I know, these shows are very different animals, but it was the same sort of "why this, now?" vibe.
I appreciated them showing that the scope of suffering Lumon is responsible for is not just limited to the individual characters we're following but also entire communities. I didn't mind the slower ep after last week's whirlwind. And we were given this huge revelation to bookend it.
I can see that from a narrative standpoint, but the quality of that Stranger Things episode (and really any ST episode) vs. this episode is honestly incomparable. In almost every way--and even just visually--this is leagues ahead of that show. I'm personally glad we're getting more of the world outside the Lumon office. I have a feeling those who are disappointed will appreciate this episode more once the season is over with a little bit of distance and more context on how all the pieces fit.
I agree with this. I know there was a short conversation a while back in here about the concert scene in season 1 and the benefits of world building, but I found this to be an actually very effective example of it as it fits seamlessly into the narrative of the show, teaches us more about Lumon the company, and relates directly to one of our main characters and in both her present and past. As much as I hope the final two episodes hit the gas, this week’s was necessary
oh, it’s definitely not a comment on the quality. Just how the placement harmed it. And harmed may be too harsh a word…
