The episode was good and cool stuff happened that I liked but the combination of a weird time/plot dash away from last week’s cliffhanger + brand new location + weird retro TV with no cords + creepy almost-digital clones that felt like a simulation/dream was being hinted at + introduction of wholly new concepts like a 4th book and innie retreats + everyone being way more expedited/heightened in their reactions and motivations and secrets being overtly expressed had me disoriented in a way that I don’t think was fully intentional. It reminded me a little of how the last season of GoT went into a different more expedited pacing and storytelling gear that felt different than the rest of the series. Probably a similar practical issue of simply having a more action and forward-moving-event heavy episode than normal.
Really great episode, but how did they convince the outies to get them out there in the wilderness? A bit confused about the time jump and how we got there at the start.
Could they have knocked them unconscious upon coming to work and just “turned them on” in Lumon-owned nature preserve? I think there’s a lot they can do with the severance chip beyond overtime contingency.
i don’t really buy that but think it’s more in line with what @OotyPa posted just find it highly unlikely the waterfall simulation is just chillin below them
Bobbing for pineapples baybayyyyy Idk I find it easier to believe they have another lower level with some nonsense going on, then they have a massive national forest lol. One thing that I find kind of interesting is that every one of the twins pointed to the right kinda having them walk in a circle, which you would do if you had semi-limited space. Also like...a MASSIVE plot point of this season is what is underneath the severed floor. Where does the elevator go?
Speaking of waterfalls, the reveal of it after Milchick was like “this is the tallest waterfall in the world” got me really good
hence why i thought it was mostly akin to just the shock of learning new revelations. i'd also say that Severance at least feels more fleshed out in terms of a roadmap, whereas conflicting visions/network priorities made TP feel a bit tonally messy at times.
I don’t know if I’m vibing with this show any more unfortunately. Too much feels weird for the sake of being weird. I don’t care about the goat people. I don’t care about young asian girl employee playing the theremin. I’m way more invested in the outies, why they chose to be severed, etc. and I don’t think the show is as interested in that.
The world building of TP is wonderful and complex and I will not tolerate slander! Severance is probably influenced at least in terms of narrative approach by shows like Twin Peaks and Lost. All three shows have a deep reservoir of lore and heavy themes.
