I was PO'd at first at it not picking up with the after-effects of last episode (reintegration), but FUCK. So good.
“I was looking at him when his eye came out. It popped from the socket, driven by a sudden torrent of pus from his skull. And he reached up to grasp at his hair, which was suddenly moss that tore easily from his bleeding scalp. And as the pus from his eye thickened into sap, I turned from my gargling brother and walked to the pool of the hollow, where I knew the waterfall would drown out my brother’s cries.” “That’s actually really smart” I love this show so much lmao
I've already said "Marshmallows are earned dear. They're not just handed out" to my partner twice this morning in reply to her asking me to hand her something.
What an episode. Irving’s dream sequence has so much to dig in to. The words Egan appearing on the screen and an outline of Helly’s face. The work was also called “Montauk” which felt like an Eternal Sunshine reference to me? Also seen a lot referencing that Helly underwater when bobbing for pineapples as foreshadowing that. also when they are working their way towards the waterfall and being directed by their “selves”, did anyone else think that the Helly one was Ms. Casey? I thought it was and then Mark’s reintegration when they are having sex flips between Helly and Gemma! Foreshadowing everywhere.
That episode was a little too wild for me, I think, at least barring any context that they might fill in later. The location/scenario felt like it was written in to force extreme reactions and get secrets out in the open without really laying the groundwork for why Lumon would stage that trip. Maybe next episode they’ll explain the in-universe reason why they randomly took them on a field trip other than “we thought you guys might like it”? But that aside, it was nice to get a push and have some stuff they were hinting it finally happen. Great show.
The DVD at the beginning explained it all. It was a good out of touch spin on the stereotypical corporate retreat. They’re always weird and they always suck. No other explanation needed in my opinion.
I keep rewatching the scene where Helena changes her facial expression by like 3 atoms and it completely flips the vibe of the entire scene. How tf did Britt Lower do that
halfway through and i have no idea what the fuck is going on. not loving this episode so far, especially given how monumental the ending to last week was
