This new episode might be the best one of the whole friggin series. Unbelievable acting, camera work, everything. I’m pretty blown away. I also recommend to watch the after-episode recap with M Night—cool discussion about the directing of the episode.
After the credits. I had to open the episode up again after it ended bc it didn’t work for me the first time
Came here to say pretty much exactly this. The performances across the board here, oh my god. Rupert Grint, god love him, he’s been great throughout but when he broke down in the car here, jesus that hit me hard. Loved that they did the “zolly” shot in the car as well. I’ve always had a soft spot for that particular camera movement and I kind of geeked out when it started happening as they were shattering the reality. Lauren Ambrose’s reaction to the news was horrifying and devastating. I’d been waiting the entire series for her to finally remember what happened and when that shoe finally dropped I suddenly felt this sick to my stomach agony for her.
Caught up on last week's episode, and I agree with everyone else - this was possibly the best episode of the entire series, and the car scene was amazing.
Ya I get notifications around 6pm PST every Thursday for this and Shrinking. Good finale imo. They went more for the emotional angle than the suspenseful thriller, which I think is fine. Brutal way to go out for Leanne, though.
This ending felt so similar to Knock at the Cabin's to me. I really liked the first half of the episode. Not really sure how to feel about the rest of it yet
God this show really did a great job questioning who to root for season to season, episode to episode right up to the very end. Leanne’s arc this final season really pushed her to the edge, but then this finale hit and those scenes between her and Dorothy broke my heart all over again. Leanne’s life was tragic as hell. At the very start of the episode I was thinking how strange it was to have such a loose end like Tobe just kind of get dropped in the final hour, and then ohhhh my god the phone call happened and I just wanted to sink through the floor. What a gut punch. I always rooted for Leanne and Tobe because he genuinely cared about her and that was so rare in her life. And her death was brutal as hell. Just horrific. The very end though…I mean we all knew “the twist” was coming in one form or another, but what a cliffhanger note to leave it on when this is the end. Probably a stupid question, but was there a significance to the wings and the mural on the wall when he stares at it and says “oh shit” at the end? Quite the closing line by the way. Oh shit indeed.
Good finale, unbelievably great show. The penultimate episode was better but I don’t mind that when the whole show is as good as it is. They managed to wrap it up which I didn’t think was possible at times lol. I will miss the sheer artistry of this show. And the performances. And just having such a beautifully-shot show set in Philly. I recommend watching the series retrospective. Got me to notice a few things including the bird motif, like in the mural and things we’ve seen before, in context of the “fallen angel” theme. Also contextualized some of the conversations Leanne and Dorothy have in the finale.
