Yeah that is a bummer too, even though it's not one of my favorites from them it still has some good songs on it. Honestly songs with a lot of screaming in them just aren't what Buddy seems into anymore. Even looking up videos of them doing songs from the SS tour like All Cowboys and the title track, he just doesn't seem into the screaming like he used to.
War Paint Vines Some thoughts on the show last night. The new songs sound great live and much tighter with the current lineup then when they play some of the older ones. Buddy spoke on how much he loves the record and how it saved the band after the reception Thorns got which bums him out because he put a lot into it. His voice isn’t ready for all the screaming he does in the songs so hopefully he’s warmed up after a few shows. First Breath, Last Breath was very emotional. Buddy told the story that inspired the song and a lot of the album (wife has MS, 3 days of labor, double hemorrhage for his wife who lost a ton of blood). He said he was the closest he’s been to suicidal thoughts and that he finally understood the pain it takes to go through with it. They had to restart the song because Buddy was about to break down. He powered through it and gave one powerful performance. After playing NYE he spoke about a small minority of fans having the Fire as their favorite album and that he liked that they could at least do one song when they haven’t in a while. He said loves the lyrics on it and the music ain’t bad either.
Yea set list qualms aside it sounds like a great show. I’m glad he at least acknowledged The Fire after the song haha Wonder what his personal dream set list would be
That would be such an interesting question to ask him. At this moment I'd guess probably be a lot of the new album in Thrones probably since they are the most personal.
Wonder if he’d tweet it. Seems his responses are usually really short, and i guess people may not like it if it only included like 2 LIEY songs lol
It’s pretty obvious that people didn’t even know the Waiting Room songs. So most have just been playing LIEY and SS on repeat for over 10 years
This is all making me sad I'll always be thankful I have these albums though. Waiting Room-Fire-Count Your Bliss EP-Renacer may be one of my favorite stretch in discographies ever. Thrones isn't even bad really, just kinda a let down but after Renacer I don't even know what they could have done haha. Zack and Matt felt restricted a bit so I guess not doing that could have helped.
Yea it’s weird to me that even despite the style changes SF have to rely so heavily on strictly 2 albums. Doesn’t feel like the other big name scene bands have had to rely that heavily. Then again I’m struggling to think of other survivors and underoaths been building hype on 2 albums for like 5 years so what do I know
When I saw TBS twice during Happiness Is tour, any song not off their first 3 didn't go over too well. I remember once they opened with Stood a Chance and the crowd were statues, then they went right into Cute and everything started going crazy. It was very weird. Also as a super huge Story of the Year fan, I'm sad to admit they rely super heavily on the Page Ave tracks for a lot of their set too.
Ugh so depressing. Happiness Is tour was great though. Wish there was even a small chance of a 10 year tour for The Fire
I feel like another band that isn't nearly as much, is Silverstein. They don't have to rely as much on the older material, but unless it's basically a song from DTW ppl are only half into it. Basically, I'm glad I'm not the only one that appreciates more than just these bands most popular record Oh also! Warpaint VINES
To be honest with you all, I had no idea this band had much of a following at all on this site (or anywhere, really) until I saw the bracket talk. I really liked LIEY and SS but other than that I completely lost interest in them. To be fair, I lost interest in a lot of bands that I had listened to in the 2000s too (Silverstein, Yellowcard, The Used, etc) When I saw SF live in 2015 (opening for Bayside), I was stunned to hear how heavy they had gotten. The crowd wasn’t much into it at all. So it doesn’t shock me at all that Buddy went back to the poppier/punk sound on the new album and in their set. As for TBS relying on their first 3 albums, I think most bands rely on their early/popular stuff at their shows. But even with TBS, those 3 albums were MASSIVE. Way bigger than anything SF ever did, imo.
I've seen a lot of Silverstein shows and I'm always surprised how much people go crazy all the way through the show. I guess it's not the same everywhere.
Thank you for that lol We have clear shut outs, folks. So it’s time for your championship of the EP/Bsides Current Totals: War Paint - 7 Bastard Son - 0 Early Graves - 1 Vines - 6 This will make your match: WAR PAINT vs. VINES Let’s go, so tomorrow we can begin the last regular season bracket for the new album!
