Gold Jacket, Green Jacket... I appreciate the message that Buddy is trying to convey, but the lyrics seem a bit clunky to me.
First Breath, Last Breath Some more extremely personal lyrics from Buddy. This has definitely been a standout track so far!
This is my favorite on the album but I do agree with the lyrics. The bridge (guitar solo going into the It's all in your head, its all in your heart part rules, its so catchy).
Ancient Gods I think this is a pretty solid mid-tempo song. On first listen it's pretty catchy, but not a whole lot stands out.
Is It Gonna Be the Year? Another pretty solid track from a lyrical standpoint. Pretty catchy chorus too. The solo from 2:40 to 3:00 is a highlight.
"You Get So Alone at Times That It Just Makes Sense" The highlight of this track for me is yet again Buddy's personal lyrics (I'm sensing a theme here!). Musically it's fine.
Orlando and a Miscarriage This is another standout so far - mainly due to it being a shorter and faster song.
Stay What You Are More or less the same comment as I've had for several other songs - it's a fine song, but not much stands out to me on my initial listen
If There is Light, It Will Find You Easily my favorite track on my initial listen. Truly a great ending to the album!
My final thoughts after my first listen: I like this album, but don't love it. I will absolutely return to it, and I expect it to grow on me. I really don't like to make judgements based on one listen, but @JediMasterKevo182 kind of forced my hand here >:0 I enjoy and appreciate the strong, personal lyrics. I'm sure I'll pick up plenty of things on future listens that I didn't pick up on my initial listen. Musically, this is quite a departure from anything they've done in over a decade really. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't miss the more aggressive songs. There are plenty of catchy choruses though and there are a few aggressive parts sprinkled in that I'm sure I'll latch onto. My (early) favorite tracks are Elevator to the Gallows, First Breath Last Breath (I know there's a comma in the song title, but it makes my list look weird), and If There is Light It Will Find You (see previous comma comment).
The lyrics on jacket are clunky as hell but that’s one of the catchiest songs they’ve ever written I think. I love the guitar work on it. Also, what better way is there to shout “I’m a milennial son of a bitch, I’d rather die poor than give in.”
Yea it’s a cool eff baby boomers sort of song haha... especially lately I have just been feeling like crap for being a millennial.
Lately I’ve been thinking that for all the shit millennials get, even the deserved stuff, seeing them be so vocal about stuff and accepting makes me smile And apparently buddy is our leader now so that’s cool
I listened to the album some more on my drive in this morning... You know the lyric "And when I was eighteen two planes flew into a f****** building and we've been at war ever since"? Buddy was only 17 then! (I only know this because it was just his birthday a couple days ago and he's only a few months older than me)
