It's all about the match ups. The ending should have been Fire vs Lifeboats I think. Songs like Nero, while good, only make it this far because what its up against. A lot of times in brackets the best songs are up against heavy hitters (lungs and blackout first round) while some weaker tracks get matched up with other weak tracks and then boom....its in the final 4 haha.
The fire Also, does anyone remember that terrible video they put out for this song? Holy shit that was bad
Yes, I was so disappointed. I remember waiting forever for it. They scrapped the original one they did because the band didn't like it and went with the one we got instead. I wonder how bad the OG was. I'd love to see it. We got the cool New Years Eve video and live video for Lifeboats, so that album cycle wasn't a bust video wise.
Oh man I can only imagine haha. I’m kind of surprised you liked the other videos though. I remember thinking that their videos really fell off production wise after family tradition nye was just him drinking in his room lol
Oh for sure, after Family Tradition we never got a good video with story and band performance. I liked the NYE and Lifeboats videos because I'm a sucker for bands rocking out haha. We haven't had videos with band performances since though unless you count the guitar solo in Gold Jacket. The MV for Mi Amor is pretty funny though.
I went and rewatched those videos since we were talking about them. This shot of the setlist popped up. Crazy to think there was a time they were playing Bite to Break the Skin, The Fire, Lungs like Gallows and Lifeboats back to back. I would have lost my mind, so metal.
The music videos for Renacer (Mi Amor and Between the Mountains and the Sea) were really great... just like the album!
Still think If There Is A Light... is a massive regression of a record but I will say that “New Jersey Makes, The World Takes” is catchy. It’s grown on me. So now there’s two songs that I moderately enjoy lol.
The final score for The Fire The Fire-7 New Years Eve-5 That will see THE FIRE join Bloody Romance, Bite To Break Skin, The Priest And The Matador, and Wolves At The Door in the championship rounds! Now it’s time for RENACER ROUNDUP Round 1 Courage Of The Knife Vs. Frost Flower Between The Mountains Vs. Holy Mountain Closure/Rebirth Vs. Snake Bite Ancient Tombs Vs. Canine —- Round 2 Winner of 1 Vs. The Glass Winner Of 2 Vs. The Path Winner of 3 Vs. Mi Amor Winner Of 4 Vs. Renacer Begin!
Courage Of The Knife (a super underrated SF track. I've loved this song from the first time I heard that kick ass guitar part in the intro before the vocals kick in. Frost Flower has always been my least favorite track on this perfect album though. Holy Mountain (tough because Moutain and the Sea is a gresr closer but HM is their heaviest track and has so much energy. Snake Bite (my all time favorite song from them. The guitar tones are perfect and has such a catchy melody for being so heavy. It's perfect. It losing is going to break my heart) Canine (this one was so hard. Ancient Tombs has grown on me so much but Canine was an isntant love so I had to go with that. The guitar tones are amazing up there with Snake Bite and that bridge hits sooooo heavy. Sad they removed it from their more recent sets since it seemed to be a favorite)
Frost Flower - I think this is one of their more underrated songs. I think I’ve heard Buddy describe it as being some sort of short interlude type song, but I always thought it stood alone. This album is full of great songs so I easily could have gone with Courage here. Holy Mountain - What a tough matchup. Between the Mountains is my favorite closer from their entire discography, but Holy Mountain just has everything going for it. One of the better choruses on the album and the heavy parts just crush Closure/Rebirth - this one instantly engages with you. I love it’s lyrics too. Snake Bite is a great song, but it’s just matched against one of my favorite songs on the album Canine - one of the best songs from the heavier era of Senses Fail for them to play live. Ancient Tombs is the most Senses Failish song on this album and I remember seeing “Ancient Tombs is the only song I can get into” which bugged me because the album is so good.
