Man I'm really not into either new songs at all. I really hope this isn't going to be a predominant sound on the next record..
I remember someone posting a tweet that had Buddy replying back to someone asking if this sound would be incorporated in the new record and he simply said "yes".
oh noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
No, you're remembering it wrong. Someone asked if they would go back to heavy after this and he answered with a simple yes
I'll have to look but if you're right then awesome but only if we are talking Renacer quality and not Thorns
Yes, I was hoping Thorns would Grow on me more than it did. Renacer is still something I go back to constantly
The problem is that Buddy supposedly wrote all the guitars on it with no help or influence from Zach which was a huge mistake. Plus Buddy went from showing hardcore influences ("lifeboats" and all of Renacer) to literally becoming it but trying to make it Senses Fail. Hopefully the next record really steps it up.
What's everyone's favorite track from Renacer? I'd have to go Snake Eyes with The Path creeping close.
Depending on the day it's something within that run of glass/ancient tombs/frost flower/snake bite. I like heavy but I was really turned off by the sludgier parts of that record.
So many good tracks on that album. Courage is up there as a favorite too, and its hard to beat the opening of Holy Mountain or the breakdown....which may be the heaviest thing they have ever done I think?
I love mountain and sea as a closer, some of my favorite guitar work from them. But I was in a weird music spot when it came out and I remember telling myself "this is so great and yet I don't have this song on repeat like younger me would."
Perhaps I'll give this record another listen today, it's been a while. Has some lows for me but definitely some good highs.
Really interesting read about the history of Senses Fail with interviews from past members. Senses Fail reflect on 15 years of success, f*ckups and making genuine music - Features - Alternative Press
Really nice read, thanks! It's always weird to hear about how that performance on Conan had such a crazy effect on Buddy. I've watched it and its not completely terrible.
The picture for the article has their albums in 2 rows, thought it'd be a cool game to play: If you could only listen to one row of albums which would pick? LIEY/LINAWR/The Fire or Still Searching/Thrones/Renacer. My favorite stretch from them is LINAWR-Renacer so its a hard pick because my 3 favs are divided up with their best being by itself.....
good idea! toughie though. still searching is my undisputed favorite, followed by fire/liey; i might lean towards liey/life/fire tho since theres more diversity and significantly fewer songs i'd skip. that could change tomorrow tho.
