On par with Funeral For A Friend's original singer post-reunion (though with him it was clear his voice was just completely shot) as some of the worst live vocals I've ever heard in the scene.
They peaked with Life Is Not A Waiting Room - The Fire - Renacer - the new songs on Follow Your Bliss imo. Hell Is in Your Head was solid as well.
yeah that waiting room / fire / renacer trio + still searching + light is my top 5 senses personally but its all good, i like every album by this band which made me want to go see them this weekend but if buddys gonna be this bad and i have a 4 am shift nahh
The Still Searching set at WWWY last years was the first time I saw them in about 15 years. Totally shocked by his performance (not to mentioned how inappropriate he acted when he brought out his daughter). My wife and I just side eyed each other. Then I saw people talking online about how good it was and I’m just like “seriously?”. Sold my LIEY tour tickets after that
I caught the second half of their Warped Orlando Set this weekend and it in person it sounded absolutely awful too. Not just Buddy, but the mixing and band as a whole just didn't sound good. So disappointing. I was really excited for it and it was dog shit.
Hasn't Buddy always been known for being bad though? I remember people bashing his live vocals back in the late 2000s
May be bad or good but at least he was trying his best. Now it seems like he’s not even bothered to try :(
He was bad mostly due to being drunk all of the time back then. The last two times I saw them in 2014 and 2017 he sounded great. The videos from Warped are even worse than when he was drunk all of the time. I only have to assume that his voice is fucked after all of these years. Those Warped videos were like bad Karaoke and the band sounds totally out of synch as well.
Regardless of how bad SF might be, SOTY still slays live and it’s worth going just for them and AFS. Hoping the crowd sing alongs make SF bearable since SOTY is closing my show.
I don't know much about the current state of things, but I do remember watching the Joshua Tree livestream for LEIY they did a few years back and being impressed with how tight and dope it sounded. That was my only frame of reference for their underwhelming set this weekend, lol. Did not live up to my expectations
i was already souring on how often buddy takes the mic to preach in between songs, but his sound quality has sank like a rock in these past few years. i also hold the 'still searching' album performance from joshua tree in high regard.
As bad as that was, I imagine it didn't sound like that live. Sounds hella compressed just hearing it straight from the live mix or whatever. In the video I just watched from Chile this year, he probably sounded better than when I saw them in 2005 or so.
I will say Buddy wasn’t great last night, but he still brings tons of energy and has a great stage presence. They still put on a really fun show. Senses Fail is much more of a small club band than a festival band. The acoustics of a festival show really show how awful his voice is while the crowd kind of drowns him out in a smaller venue.
Create a band called Fences Sail and base their entire discography on doing the exact opposite of whatever Senses Fail does to create the illusion that they're doppelgangers from a mirror universe.
So weird, I just looked this up last night to see if I could find any mention of them in the studio. I was listened to a pod where buddy said some of those Hell songs were written in 2019 even. Covid messed up recording/ release and rollout timeline of it all
Make a double album. One half melodic post hardcore, the other half hardcore. Try to please everyone.
i hope i like this more than the last album but i still thought that was better than people said it was. it did kinda feel stuck in one gear though, a change of pace would be nice. i feel like you can tell those songs were written back in 2019 lol
Funny that’s what buddy said the last album was supposed to be- side a one style side b the other and it didn’t really come across that way.
You can’t listen to anything Buddy says unfortunately. We were supposed to get another record that he worked on with Dan. We were also supposed to get another Bayonet record, and he announced a side project called Sweater Weather.
