repeating my joke i just told you - if that's the case then buddy needs to release a song titled Tonald Drump immediately
Going back to the legacy acts thing, I wanna know who these people are that are spending money to go to SF shows only to hear the hits lol Id imagine anybody who even knows SF are still active have been following closely and wanna hear more beyond the pop hits. Granted, I recognize that’s wrong and that’s just the way touring goes, but I can’t wait to meet someone in life who tells me they saw SF live within the past 5 years but couldn’t name the album that came after SS.
Yeah with those earlier albums, I always felt like they would've been my favorites had I heard of Senses Fail much earlier, like when I was all over that sound. The Fire was my introduction to the band, and by the time it came out, I was already starting to move on from bands in a similar lane, I guess. Its heavier undertones appealed to me so much though. I got a similar case with Silverstein, where my favorite albums are in the latter half of their discography. Just an interesting observation. Anyway, the new song is great. The songwriting is definitely stronger than the past release, so if the album is in that vein, count me in. The chorus is standard Senses Fail, but I really appreciate the dark undertones in the verses.
I mean SF’s popularity peaked with their first two albums and fell off quite a bit after The Fire I’d say. The last “hit” they’ve had was Family Tradition. The anniversary tours obviously brought back a lot of old fans and it’s not hard to fathom that fans who only like their first 2 or 3 albums wouldn’t know anything since, but would easily come out to see them play those albums. You’d be surprised at the amount of fairweather fans that go to shows for nostalgia purposes and could care less about their current music. That’s the reason Emo Nite is even a thing lol
Yeah, it's a really tough line for these bands to walk. I went to the TBS tour where they played Tidal Wave in full and people were talking through the whole set to the point where it was unenjoyable for me and I was stoked to hear them play it. When they did the encore of old stuff, people went totally ape shit. It was a tale of two shows. It must be challenging for a band like SF, especially one who kind of have a variety of sounds through their back catalog, to please all of the fans--especially when the livelihood of the band more or less depends on pleasing everyone. I love Renacer, respect/am lukewarm on Thorns, but I do love their poppier and melodic stuff. I'm just happy they get to make music. I mean, my fiancee, who is a big pop-punk fan, got reallyyy into ITIL and now considers herself a Senses Fail fan because of it. In that sense I think ITIL was effective of rejuvenating the band/the old fan base and folding in some new fans, which probably would not have happened if the band had continued in the Thorns direction. Love the new song--sounds like a nice mix between the two. Can't wait for a new SF record!
I get shit all the time for liking a band's (who had previous success in the industry) new stuff and wanting to hear/see those songs live over their 15-20 year old hits haha. TBS is definitely one of those bands a few of my music buddies get at me about. "Why do you still listen to them?!" "They're still around?!"
I cant help but wonder how much this band is struggling since I dont really see other bands out there commenting how they cant do this or that due to fans even if they want to.
Emo nite sucks. There’s a pandemic where live music has been cancelled. Everybody is struggling whether they’re vocalizing it or not. SF and their peer’s fan base has morphed into people that go to less than 10 shows a year. They’re not there to care about the band now, they’re there to catch a feeling of 2006. Buddy would have seen this firsthand by doing three anniversary tours.
Taking Back Sunday completely fucked up the marketing for that tour. They advertised it as playing small rooms with bigger room prices ($50ish tickets at a venue thats usually $30). Then after it sold out, they announced they were playing Tidal Wave all the way through. Tidal Wave also came out a couple days before the tour started. I'm pretty sure the MN date was less then a week after release, there was no time for anyone to even learn the songs.
The new song is musically one of my favorites since fire. His flow is sometimes really off but some super catchy melodies strewn about in there.
Taking Back Sunday Senses Fail Silverstein Hawthorne Heights Blink-182 Story of The Year Yeah I hear those comments a lot. Fuck the haters!!!
Eh, Emo Nite is fun and harmless imo. I have some friends that are even more into “scene music” than I am and we have a blast when we go (haven’t been for a while due to COVID obviously).
It’s always rubbed me the wrong way when Emo Nite is being held in the local house of blues and the touring bands get even a smaller turnout at a smaller venue. It certainly can be fun, but the novelty wore off once I was seeing that crop up more frequently.
It’s crazy to me how ignorant a lot of fans are and how shitty their political beliefs can be. Even bands like Bad Religion and Anti Flag get shit on fans who are now conservatives. It’s like a certain segment of the punk scene grew up to being republican loving dumbasses. Can’t say I’m surprised given where our country is at, but it’s rather disappointing.
