Such a powerful song! As a new dad it wrecked me.

To the note about the guitar: I thought the guitars are really cool on the album, nothing ground breaking but lots of catchy parts. I gotta remember their first couple albums absolutely rip on guitar so people may miss that a bit.

this will be a great pop punk summer album, will be listening a ton.

I listened to it on the way to work this morning and I am up to Lush Rimbaugh. I like it more than the last record, but I can't get over how bad the vocals are. I would love to know if he's working with a vocal coach or not.

Say what you want about Renacer and PTTFYH, but he improved his voice a lot during that time. I think this is the worst his voice has ever sounded and it's interfering with my enjoyment of the record.

One listen through, this feels pretty on par with The Fire to me in their discography. Better production obviously. Couple tracks I'll love, couple tracks that don't do much. Death is pretty easily the weakest on here for me

I think Renacer is the best Buddy has ever sounded. His cleans afterwards have been up to par, but his screams have not been good from Thorns onward

As much as I want to like this album I just kinda come away from it pretty bored.

As someone who kinda fell off the Senses Fail listening train after Still Searching (and LIEY has a place in my heart okay) and I'm enjoying it.

Some of the vocal deliveries/lyrics sound so clunky.

  8. Did my first listen last night and seem to have come away with a completely different feeling than everyone else - I thought the melodies, guitar parts, and vocal delivery were all better the last record (I was actually surprised at how much I like the songwriting, given my feelings about the singles) but I cannot stand the way it is mixed and mastered. Vocals feel buried, mix seems muddy, the guitars feel thin, and the cymbals are way too loud. It honestly is making the album unlistenable to me. Really bummed. And I actually enjoy the mix on every other SF record, so this is new.

Comments about this had me worried, but I actually quite like it.

I’m digging this more than most people too. Not a no skip album or anything, but definitely enjoy it.

my big critique of it is that initially when it was announced, Buddy said the concept would be side A is super heavy (Renacer style) and side B would be pop punk bliss. I don’t think that was executed at all.

Intrigued to throw this on in a bit. Not expecting a ton. I liked the last record, but it's definitely not something I return to much.

I absolutely love Still Searching, Life Is Not a Waiting Room, and The Fire. Everything before and after is hit or miss. I probably like Renacer the most of that bunch, and Thorns the least, which I straight up don't like at all.

I enjoyed this more than I think I expected when I listened this morning. I remember nothing about the last two (?) albums so will have to revisit them. Was a fan of Renacer but then the pivot back (I think) to their old style seemed kind of deflating but honestly not even sure how many records are between this and Renacer so I have to work to do, but I enjoyed this and will spin it a few times over the weekend.

Only a few moments made me double take in a bad way.

I was not a fan of the last album so I went into this one carefully. It’s not bad. There’s some songs I’ll come back to for sure. Side A is definitely more appealing to me than side B. Yes, some of the lyrics and vocals are a little rough, but after being a SF fan for so long that’s kinda expected.

Went into this with limited expectations after the first few singles and walked away enjoying it waaaay more than I expected. I think it's a more cohesive album than their last, not sure I have any songs I'd skip on this one.

I cannot listen to the title track without thinking it’s what Tiny Rick would play on Warped Tour.

Halfway through my first listen. Thought the last record had some top tier tracks but sounded thin and had a lot of clunkiness. I’m not sure anything’s gripped me as a top tier SF track yet on this but the floor is much higher than the last, I like the production, and I think there are a lot of subtle new things that’ll keep me listening. Pleased so far.

Also feels *way* more like LINAWR than still searching to me. Really doesn’t sound like SS at all.

Pardon the shameless self-promo, but now that a few of you have now had a chance to give the album a try here's my recent chat with Buddy for anyone interested about the record, the features on there, working with Beau Burchell (Saosin), how it ties with 'Still Searching', etc.

EP #14 - Buddy Nielsen (Senses Fail)

I was lucky enough to have the album a short while in advance so I've had the chance to give it a good few listens, and, whilst it isn't my favourite SF record, it's definitely one of their best in my opinion. That closer is just so good.

Yea bc of the leak I got to play it a bit, I feel like it will eventually grow more on people. Either way I think it’s a blast and it’s great to still be getting nigh quality music from them.

also, checked this out yesterday. Great job with the interview! Found the conversation very engaging.

  21. This is pretty bad. A lot of the lyrics and vocals are just…not good.

I smoked and went for a hike today so I decided to throw this on with headphones. Im actually pretty blown away by this album. I guess smoking made the vocals less irritating and once I got past them, there are some huge choruses on this thing. I actually found myself replaying a bunch of songs.

As someone else said, this album kind of reminds me of LINAWR. Kind of funny since he was trying to do a sequel to SS. The vocals on that album were hard to digest as well but after they grew on me, it's one of my favorites. With this album, you can tell Buddy really put it all out there. I absolutely loved Renacer and PTTFYH because of how positive the lyrics were, and it felt like he broke free from all his demons. Those albums helped me get through a lot so it was a bummer that he ditched the aggressiveness and went back to sad lyrics. But after actually listening to the lyrics, it seems like he's experienced a lot since those albums and it's cool he's talking about it. This is definitely going to be on repeat for a while

Oh man, I totally forgot how much of Thorns sounds a lot like Renacer. Definitely could have seen some of these songs on Renacer if they wanted a double album or just a longer album. I wonder why I didn’t connect with Thorns that much. Hmm.

I think Thorns is much less cohesive than Renacer is and, sonically, I also think it lacks the same punch as Renacer has
