It made me stop listening Brian Fallon's Sleepwalkers on repeat...love this album and especially LOVE Ancient Gods and Gold Jacket
Really wasn't feeling this. The title track is the only thing that stood out to me. I know they actively went out of their way to sound like old SF, but it's still just such a regression to me after Renacer. Lyrically I can't get past most of these songs either. I'm bummed, was hoping to like it but I'm just extremely let down with it.
Instrumentally this what I wanted from SF. I think a lot of the lyrics are tongue in cheek, and the choruses are quite as catchy as I would like. However, this is a pretty fun album and I much prefer this direction over where they were headed with Thorns.
The lyrics on this record are probably my favorite so far. They feel brutally honest and every song has a real strong narrative which makes it easy to connect to the songs. I don’t think they are poetic at all but the vocal delivery makes up for that.
Rocking this hard right now. Keep waiting for that moment where this falls off and I’m liking it more and more
So, after two listens, I feel very up and down about this. The songs I like, I really like. Super catchy, straight to the point in a good way. The other ones, I don't know...I don't dislike, but they do feel a bit weak or forgettable. Like, I can tell this was written by someone who doesn't have a lot of instrumentation under his belt as far as songwriting goes - the leads get a little corny, almost too "on-the-nose" for the genre, if that makes sense. I think Buddy sounds GREAT here - very confident vocal performance and you can tell he really just...means it. Always have had a ton of respect for him and what he's done musically. The lyrics are really to the point in a way that I like, though I do question the delivery at times (the "stretching of syllables" like others have mentioned - the only instance of it that I like is the "NoOOoOO" in 'New Jersey Makes...,' the rest feels a little forced and is half the reason I expected to hate this record.) The closer is great. I'll give it a few more spins because I do think I'll like it more as I listen more. I do feel like I get a LOT of Jimmy Eat World vibes at certain parts and oddly enough, I find that Buddy's voice actually reminds me of Davey Havok in a few tracks (though moreso when Davey goes for lower notes). Just some random thoughts.
So if you are really into this album and for some reason havnt listened to hidden in plain view’s “life in dreaming” I highly suggest changing that
I will actually listen to this again with that in mind, since it's probably one of my favorite records of all time.
YES. The guitar and drumming immediately reminded me of HIPV. Even some of the vocal melodies are reminiscent of Life in Dreaming.
Man, did not expect this to be as good as it is. Really enjoying it, this will be perfect for spring.
I liked this a lot to begin with but I’m coming to appreciate the nuances between individual songs more, and am finding the melodies more memorable. Really great record. Only songs I don’t care for are double cross, NJ, and shaking.
Nj is one of my favorite tracks. I actually think the first 3 Rip super hard and really put me in the mindset to listen to this music again
