I listened to Thorns last night and I still love it. Definitely not as much as Renacer, but a great mark on their discography
Yeah I listened to Renacer on the way to buy this album last night. They really nailed going heavier on that album, so good. But I love everything Buddy did on this album. The music really matches the lyrics perfectly on both of those imo
This is pretty good but the songs definitely blend together. Listening to renacer and pull the thorns was a much more interesting experience on first listen. The turning a one syllable word into three syllable word drives me nuts as well. I just don’t think his voice is suited for that
Agreed. I have a playlist that I listen to at the gym with both albums. Listening to both together definitely made me appreciate those songs more
Vinyl preorder was delivered today. /300 electric blue with white and grey splatter. Looks awesome. The gatefold layout is great too. Can’t wait to spin it later. Didn’t Buddy say somewhere that they hired the makeup artist from the walking dead or something to help create the costume/mask?
Word. Really dig this album, but a lot of samey chord progressions blur the songs together for me. Pretty much every song's chorus starts with I - IV. Not necessarily a bad thing but that's why I feel this comment.
There's something really compelling about the lyrical style on this album. As silly as they can be at points, they're just so honest and authentic. This guy's just candidly laying out every uncomfortable thought he's ever had and it's really refreshing.
As someone who has went through some of the stuff he sung about on this album, this was a heavy listen for some of the songs, but of so great! I've probably listened to it like close to 10 X's & it's just great. I've even began to like some of the singles that I wasntg really into at 1st.
Love this album. I've always been a big casual fan of the band, but haven't loved anything since Still Searching. This album is so blunt, honest and to the point. As someone who went through similar situations within the last few years a few of these songs hit really hard. I can definitely say this is my favorite Senses Fail album and has renewed my respect for Buddy. First Breath, Last Breath, Stay What You Are and the closer are my favs, but there is not a bad song on the album. I hope they play a lot of the album on the tour with Reggie and Have Mercy.
Obviously he has the STD name drop but does anybody else think You Get So Alone At Times could be pulled like right off of In Reverie? The melody is so Conley and he even finishes off his words just like him haha.
three or four listens in, but no solid opinion yet. huge SF and Buddy fan. so far im liking it. certainly more that Speak The Truth
I liked Speak The Truth more than I expected and listened to it a lot for a solid 2 weeks but I don't even remember much of how the album sounds compared to this
As always on a Senses Fail record, an easy highlight is Buddy Nielson’s performance. He’s never been a great vocalist technically – he’s whiney, he’s nasally, and his range is rather limited- but I’d be impressed if you can find someone more passionate behind the mic. this passage from the sputnik review hits the nail on the head about Buddy.
