I don't like it much because there isn't much musical diversity. Unless you like Rise Against or metalcore, you're screwed. If I went, my only must-sees would be ADTR, PTV, and UO, with OM&M and Issues being maybes. With the other two, it appeals to metalcore fans, punk fans, post-hardcore fans, ska fans, pop-punk fans, and most importantly, people that like a bunch of genres. Oh, and this applies to all three of them, but ZERO WOMEN.
To my knowledge, the only female fronted bands that have played Self Help are Tonight Alive and PVRIS. Kind of hard to do when so many female-fronted bands have deviated from "the scene" or just aren't active at the time. Maybe San Bernadino's line-up will be different.
That would be cool. More than anything, I just would love to see a platform for more bands to become the next PVRIS or Tonight Alive.
so, uh, maybe there aren't female bands in "the scene" because there aren't female bands on stage? so take a chance on some bands which i'm sure are out there but just don't happen to get label support? a very decent portion of fanbase are women, so it's not that they don't like this music, it's that they aren't influenced to start bands. it's up to the bands to help with that
I have a soft spot for Silverstein, one of the gateway bands for me to heavier music, I'll always appreciate them for that
Silverstein was losing me for a bit, but I love the new sound they've developed on their last three records.
Philly lineup is weak compared to self help 2015 but Silverstein is as good as the scene gets and to not like them should be a crime
this is the thing that people don't get. nothing changes until change is actively made! "most bands are men" isn't an excuse, you're literally stating the issue!!
I bought my early bird ticket 4 pack thing for Detroit without thinking about the date. Just realized it's on the same day as Michigan-Michigan State which I have also have tickets for...decisions
They picked the worst days for Philly and Detroit. NFL opening Sunday with a big NFC East matchup for the Eagles; Michigan-Mi State just 50 miles up the road on the Detroit date. Which is also rumored to be a night game so traffic on WB 94 and 96 is gonna be a real shitshow
