Giving this a another listen right now. I thought it was good the first time, but I'm really feeling it today. But I do feel like she lacks identity. This just feels like a collection of pop songs. Which isn't a bad thing - they're enjoyable and catchy. But it's not really saying anything either, and I'd be surprised if I'm still thinking much about it in a few months. Selena sums it up the best herself on "Fun".
Oddly, I think I am liking this a bit less each time I listen. I definitely agree that she doesn't have much identity here. The album is supposed to be about finally like, breaking free and being happy again and letting go of the past, but the lyrical content barely touches on that. Also I feel like she kinda holds back vocally here, I don't get a huge sense of what her voice specifically brings to the table. Anyway, still like the album, but it's certainly a strange one
The singles leading up to this album over the years had me really excited (Bad Liar, Fetish, etc.) but there really isn't as much interesting stuff on the album.
I feel the same way overall. I think the singles leading up (the bonus tracks here) were starting to carve a unique niche for her in the pop world, but this album doesn't really have much that I would consider unique to her
Interesting info, this song was debuted all the way back in 2016 on the Revival tour. Fans figured it would be the lead single for Rare, but it never materialized
Finally listened to most of this the other day & overall did not like it, unfortunately. Nothing outside of the first couple singles really stuck out. Looks like my trend of disliking every other album continues.
