On episode 7 and yeah I agree. And according to you the last 3 are crazy.... The cameos in episode 6 were great and Drew being the outsider in the It parody is the type of thing that only this show and Man Seeking Woman could pull off
That scene was so fucking funny. "Hot Baby" was easily my favorite joke of the season and it was the most throw away joke ever.
I really didn’t feel like the show stuck the landing here. I was absolutely loving this up until it turned into a zombie story. Way more interested in the cult, and Dory trying to convince the whole world to die had real potential to me. Going to need to sit with my thoughts on this, and probably do a rewatch.
What a wild ride. I think I loved it? Only complaint is that the Aspen story didn’t really lead anywhere.
I was kinda confused as to why they just dropped it. I also didn't completely understand where he came from lol
I was absolutely sobbing at the scene in episode two with the man drinking whiskey. One of the most beautiful thing's I've seen on television. Staying out of this thread until we're finished but I am loving this new season, easily the best they've done. And that's not even mentioning the whole child plotline, which might be the most ridiculous plotline i've ever seen in any tv show. What a way to go out.
-No no no, her eyes, there’s no life in them, she’s brain dead! -What? -This woman has no brain! -Yes I do! -Nooooo, she’s a completely brain dead moron, you gotta get her outta here
Really laughing at myself from earlier today, who was confused about how Dory assaulted two people and escaped from an asylum but was somehow not being looked for or reported for being sighted anywhere, because I had no idea how little that mattered or how completely over the top this season was about to get Also definitely thought the dad of the family Chantal harassed in episode 8 was the same guy that currently occupied Dory and Drew’s old apartment in episode 2, and that really fucked with me until it was basically confirmed that Liquorice was actually just very sick and probably delusional
I'll be the first to say it then. I really, really loved this show but holy shit I don't remember being so fucking annoyed with the final season of a show in years. I don't know what the hell they were thinking. I guess I respect them for really swinging for the fences and there were still a lot of laughs for me but the story just did not work for me in the SLIGHTEST. These characters deserved a real ending and I really cared about them, and this shit just completely ruined the show for me. I literally just now finished so maybe I'll cool down on it, or maybe there's some big metaphor I'm missing, but goddammit, I'm so disappointed in where this went. Unless I have some drastic opinion change I probably won't even treat this season as canon in my mind and just pretend the show ended with Dory dying at the end of S4, which actually had a fantastic series finale
wife and i are on episode 8 and i'm having a hard time convincing her to power through it... pretty cornball.
As far as a “big metaphor”, I think the show has always been about narcissism/millennials/social media culture. And in the final season it goes so far that these characters’ narcissism has actually caused the apocalypse. Dory and Chantal arguing about who was the real cause of it really hit the nail on the head, and idk, it worked for me!
I stand by my take after watching the last 3 eps a second time again today - turning this into a zombie spoof was a big mistake and made the ending so boring (even though tbf the humor remained consistent) because it has been done to death. I know they love genre send-ups, but this was too all over the place. They could have kept with the cult stuff and i think better explored the millennial narcissism/social media themes in a more fresh and interesting way. I felt like each season ended with such a strong gut punch, I’m bummed this kind of limped out. Probably gonna do a rewatch soon. I think Chantal was consistently the funniest character to me in the entire series.
I definitely don’t think this show was as great at crafting a strong narrative as it was capturing millennial-ism, writing memorable and (somewhat) relatable characters, and generally just being relentlessly funny. The main five actors at the very least (including Chantal here) gave some of my favorite television comedy performances in years. Right up there with You’re The Worst and The Other Two. But yeah beyond like season two the plot just felt continuously & increasingly bizarre. I’ve never enjoyed a show so much that felt like it was just straight up wingin it most of the time
Shout out to the elevator bit for being so incredibly weird in that you didn't know what was actually going on just for them to be like, "haha this show is grounded, what were you thinking?" to turning into a show with zombies.
Y’all watch shit way too fast. Or maybe just use spoilers for the first week the season is out? Spoiled many things just by peeking into this thread.
I love how they continually upped the absurdity of the situations they found themselves in, I think this was the only way to go out.
