I think it's a little odd to find S/T so cringeworthy but not see those same faults in a lot of IARB/IDOTG songs IDOTG particularly has a lot of moments when I think back to listening to it that make me scratch my head, quite a bit more than S/T
Are people defending the cringiness of IDOTG? Because that might be one of the worst ones, as far as that goes.
Exactly. It's crazy. Did anyone read Max's press release for Psyche!? That's how he wrote on ALL his albums.
Yeah but it was something new and fresh on IARB and then each album it got more and more tiring. That’s why I said I grew sick of his schtick.
I mean fair, I get this, but in retrospect looking back I can't judge the albums like that anymore because time has passed and the space I am in mentally now is quite different. I also got into Max right before S/T so that's probably why I feel so strongly about it lol
I just wish he’d capitalized on better singles. Hate Everyone and Property are the two worst songs on the self titled album by far and so naturally that’s how he presents himself to the masses, not the effortless pop smarts of Eloise or Cemetery or Less Cute no those would be too sensible
I wouldn't even put Hate Everyone in the bottom half of that album, and as much as I love Cemetery and Eloise, they don't exactly scream big single to me.
My 4 yr old daughter loves 2 songs from the scene: AVA - Rebel Girl (the “cinderella” song) Say Anything - Cemetery (“you’re in my potty”)
I think there was like a live recording or demo where he sung different lyrics where it seemed to be more about living in LA or something. It's been years so I might be misremembering but I feel like I heard it from them playing a website radio session. I could also be completely wrong haha
