Yeah so I was there, I imagine most people didn't know what he was talking about. It was pretty silent with I think a few random cheers which would have probably cheered at anything. As far as the show itself I enjoyed it. He does sing a lot of the songs in like a weird delivery and let's the crowd sing the parts instead of him too much though. I don't remember him doing that as much before. It's always cool seeing Sherri on stage with him, cemetery was great
I saw Max solo in Philly in 2019, and all of the Sherri duets were fantastic. My wife and I went to that show kind of expecting a mess, but everything about that show was great. The dude from Museum Mouth opened and performed with Max a lot. That was a nice touch.
Download file 01_Psyche!_(Single_Edit).mp3 I made a version of "Psyche!" without Max's diatribe at the end.
For the love of god! Please make more Weatherbox music. Miss New Buddha was ok but it's not Weatherbox.
I definitely prefer overall cleaner production for SA but I do love about half of IDTII even with it’s messy production. Love Miss New Buddha.. but yeah it’s time for more Box
I don't understand how anyone could listen to more than a second of IDTII. To have so many well produced albums and then intentionally make something sound that shitty is inexcusable
Psyche is the best thing I've heard from SA since the self titled and even then Max had to throw that fucking stupid outro on it. It's like, "I know you want the polished SA back, but I need to throw some shit in there that's polarizing." It's always something with Max. Anarchy My Dear was a return to the Is a Real Boy producer, BUT the songs lacked anything interesting and production wasn't great. Hebrews has songwriting that captures the SA magic, BUT it was recorded with no guitars and just keyboards. I Don't Think It Is has a raw punk energy BUT the production is intolerable for most ears. Oliver Appropriate is a sequel to Is a Real Boy BUT I'm back on drugs and it's mainly done with acoustic guitars. There's been a "BUT" with them to me since the self titled, and save for some cringe lyrics, I fucking loved Neal Avron's production on that one.
But didn't you know that it's okay if it sounds shitty because it was done intentionally? Or does that excuse only work for more popular bands?
IDTII was the most disappointed I've ever been with an album on release. It grew on me over the years, but Princess and Varicose Vissage still remain my least favorite SA songs. Give a Damn, 17 Coked Up and Speeding, Rum, Goshua, Jiminy and a few others stayed in playlists for years though.
That album is probably in the top 5 worst albums released by a band I love. To this day there's not a single song on there I would want to listen to.
Before IDTII I think I enjoyed every song Say Anything ever put out and considered them my favorite band. Off that album the only song I liked is 17 Coked Up, album's complete trash. Whatever Max has put out since Hebrews has been abysmal, his behavior worse. Oliver has some melodic listenable stuff but still, it's odd and not in a cute way, when Say Anything use to be cute and now it's scary.
Above comment is spot on. I remember listening to IDTII the first time and sincerely thinking it was a joke album. I think it's the biggest misstep by a band I previously liked, ever.
