lol, wow, I was just fondly remembering a couple days ago all the fun drama with Max on Absolute Punk dot net circa 2009. Listened to the new song out of morbid curiosity, especially with Taking Back Fred playing on the song. I’ve never known what to make of Max’s brand of unhinged, and this truly continues that trend. What a fascinating car crash that’s equal parts sad, funny, and grotesque to me.
I’m not able to re-listen at the moment but does that part of the song have instrumentation or is it produced? I’m wondering if the rest of the band had anything to do with that part.
It really is a bummer cus I do think the song is really cool and I should be so excited right now, but there's such an unpleasant feeling around everything outside of it.
This is very strange, Max isn't okay and I don't think he has been for quite a while. I get bad vibes from him just from all the tidbits of news about him from the past decade or so.
I got into Say Anything when Is A Real Boy released, and “Max isn’t okay” was one of the main topics of discussion back then as well. Definitely not just a last decade problem unfortunately.
I got into them at the same time and there was deff a period of Max getting his shit together and being on the up before spiraling back down again. Ya know?
Not to get too like, speculation-y about Max, but I feel like from Self-Titled through Hebrews he seemed healthier than he did pre-S/T, and certainly healthier than he does post-Hebrews. I might be forgetting some things, but it's crazy seeing the shift from seeming to come to terms with the inevitable dip in relevance that comes with any entertainment career in Lost My Touch, to what he is now. I hope he's able to reach a healthier place but this new single genuinely makes me so uncomfortable that I'm not sure if I could even go back to the earlier albums again.
“This is my Chronic 2k so I'm gonna describe In ironic terms that convey I'm a sick guy How I got away with destroying My lover's true life” …..what the actual fuck. And then going on to say that Darren King is going to kill himself? It’s honestly really scary how far gone Max is. (This coming from someone who used to have a say anything tattoo -now covered up)
Yeah I agree. If I zone out and don’t pay attention (which is a big ask lol) to what he’s actually saying, I don’t hate it sonically
i wonder if i heard IARB for the first time today, at this age, if i'd think it's too problematic to love.
He says the ending part clear as day live. Anybody who thought he wanted to obscure the name….he certainly doesn’t care here, haha.
