No psyched (heh) at them referencing Saves The Day though. I know Max and Chris were (are?) close but...gross.
What was the reference? Sorry I wasn't paying attention. Also, toxic people support each other. It was a fucking gut punch hearing about Chris. Saves The Day was instrumental in my teenage years and I connected with so many of the lyrics. I'd like to believe Chris wasn't always like who he is now, but it seems like him getting "famous" early in his life really inflated his ego.
I think it sounds good but obviously need to wait to hear the whole song. Cautiously optimistic I wonder if they'll be playing it live Friday
Songs out in Australia… Was digging it until the end… what the fuck was that Spoken word rant where Max mentions How Darren King will shoot himself, and something about how we “freed Cosby” If I heard correctly on my first listen
That sounds horrible. I don't get it why I still get excited for anything new from Max or Say Anything. It's always such a let down. Not just a let down. Like the worst cringey shit I've ever heard. They just used to mean so much to me I guess.
It’s frustrating that this is the best sounding thing max has put out since Anarchy, but the lyrics are just fucking insane (not in a good way).
Oh god, I just used a VPN to listen to the song and... yikes. Legit for the first like, 4ish minutes, I think it's the most accessible and cohesive this band has been since self-titled (outside of the lyrics having some major lows), but then the last like, minute and a half Max goes on this weird spoken-word-rap-eh-rant and it ruins everything that came before it. When I read @Allhailburnzy 's description I was like... please tell me it doesn't get that bad. But yeah, literally the last bits are about how Derren King is gonna shoot himself, but what pushes it totally off the edge for me is there's a line that is like "if you don't know who he is google him". That's how the song ends. It's just like, bizarre. Like, I get writing about family or personal drama or whatever but this is a bit much.
I just googled "Say Anything Psyche", saw a YouTube link, then switched my VPN to Australia to hear it.
Lol ok I had to listen so used a VPN and yeah what a bizarre ending, I was on shitty laptop speakers but the rest didn't sound bad. Just like whyyy
Okay, yeah, song sounds the most like Say Anything since IDOTG even, Max sounds pretty good and the musicianship/production is undeniable. That last minute and a half, though, is...unnerving.
Only thing I can think of is that there's more context on the record (presuming there is one) and the lyrics was run by Darren before being recorded. But who knows.
I really, really, hope that this is the case but if it is this was also a terrible choice for a first single barring a promo blurb that somehow makes sense of it. But seeing how Max's promos have been since at least Oliver, I'm not holding out hope too much. Also pretty sure Max/Sherri aren't on speaking terms with Stacy/Derren. But I don't know.
Sherri and Stacy don't even follow each other on social, I think Stacy has very much distanced herself from Sherri in recent years
If that's the case, then I truly don't know what to make of it The first part of the line (if I heard correctly) was "Billy Zane shot himself, and so will Darren King." What's the Billy Zane part in reference to?
