I just...look. I love this band. Loved, love, whatever. I don't have quite the same extreme reaction others have had in here about their issues, and that one subreddit is parasocial to a harmful extent. But I just...I'm just so confused. And curious. About Coby's involvement. About the oversharing. About the ongoing grifting accusations. I've been tempted to reach out for a follow-up considering we have our own strange past, but I doubt he'd go for it and more importantly don't know if it would be helpful.
I think if you weren’t super close, you shouldn’t reach out. There’s some serious shot going on and unless you’re someone who could actually step in and help if asked, I don’t really see the point. But that’s just me.
I kinda regret digging up the Bemis snark shit a couple of months ago, but yeah, this is overall kinda weird. Like, I truly hope that this is a turning point for Max and the band is able to succeed without relying on just a select few super fans who will buy into any asinine thing with the Max Bemis or Say Anything label attached. I really hope this normalizes Max as much as he's capable of being normalized and that the family is able to find some real stability after however long since Say Anything stopped paying the bills. I'll check out the song, maybe even the eventual album, but unless there's some clear growth and change in the way this band treats their fans and advertises themselves, I really can't see myself wanting to go to a Say Anything show or buying merch or anything else again. And at least based on feedback I read online, I think I have a more generous mindset towards Max and this band at this point than most people who have ever cared enough to discuss the band with random strangers online. So I kinda wonder if it's too late, but eh.
But have YOU heard it? And if so, without potentially breaking embargo review rules, could you…just name an album or era that it may or may not sound like
OOTL. What is the controversy? Last i heard of Say Anything, they were breaking up? Looks like they are about to release music though? Coby's back? What is happening?
Yikes. It’s just so…sad. Imagine another Belt, Glory, Or Cemetery. Instead we get ones like Fired and Admit It Again.
I’d like to hear it. Mission Accomplished I guess? But then I can’t remember all the bad things he’s done and so much of it can be chalked up to mental illness that I’m not really sure how I feel.
Thats a shame, I thought that clip from the Instagram post a few weeks back actually sounded intriguing
I am so glad somebody brought this up. Starting with the self-titled, I just have to roll my eyes whenever this guy announces new music because EVERY TIME its some variation of "this is the record I always WANTED to make" or "this is the REAL Say Anything" or "this is the most honest since IARB."
Max just seems so desperate to be revered like that again that he constantly has to keep bringing that album up. I've never seen an artist so stuck on 1 album in their career even then the next 2 are also well received lol
PSYCHE you thought we were gone PSYCHE but you were wrong we're back again and I need the money my family troubles aren't that funny I convinced my band to come back and tour and maybe an album and something more PSYCHE just kidding i suck PSYCHE I don't own up to the damage I've done PSYCHE just singing here for fun
The Return of Say Anything: Gear Up For New Single "Psyche!" - idobi Network "Say Anything are back together and releasing a brand new track, “Psyche!“, out April 28th. They are a band that have always done things differently than everyone else. They stuck out like a sore thumb in the scene since their inception in a beautifully unique and transparently broken way. Max Bemis is a genius to say the least and you won’t find another project quite like his. Hell, their first full-length album, …Is A Real Boy, was intended to be a performative musical that transformed into a two-part melodic odyssey." Barf.
Anyone who longs for actual Say Anything-sounding Say Anything, it’s probably long since posted in here but “Mime” from his Maxim Mental project is great
