It's hard to get interested in new material from Max, and not even because he's become such a dangerous parody of himself, but one way to do that is to involve Brian
I really just don't know what to think of Max and Sherri at this point. I am in the minority that genuinely likes every Say Anything album, but they've been on this insane grifter arc for years at this point and it's made it hard to listen to any of their projects. There was a Reddit post I saw where someone bought an art commission from Sherri, she was way off the advertised deadline, and when the person e-mailed her about it received a picture of her holding the art, but also giving the finger to the camera with "bitch" written on the page. They apparently also couldn't take care of their kids themselves, or afford someone to help, so they just let some random super fan move in to help nanny. I've never regretted any of my tattoos, but the Say Anything one might end up the first.
I'm actually combing through the Say Anything subreddit right now and I'll let you know if/when I find the source for that one. I'm pretty sure it was mentioned on a podcast appearance at some point but the whole subreddit is a shit show of people pissed at Max and Sherri so it's hard to pinpoint the origins of some things. I've seen a lot of people mention it over the last few months though. Here's a screenshot of one comment mentioning it though. (I'm not sure if the "paid in merch" part is a joke or not, I'm too neurodivergent to pick up on that stuff. haha)
I'm honestly very conflicted about getting mine covered up. The artist who did it (along with almost all of my tattoos for 5 years) passed away last April. He was a good dude and I always looked forward to seeing him, so I don't totally want to cover any of his work. But I don't know. I do feel weird sometimes when I see the tattoo and remember what Max has become.
How are the children allowed to not attend school but also not really be homeschooled at the same time? Surely that’s against some law right?
I guess I live on this thread today. But homeschooling is... weird. I was technically homeschooled from kindergarten through to when I was like 13 or 14 and a cult pressured my parents into having kids way too late into life, which made it so my parents were unable to school me or my siblings and we were forced to drop out since they didn't want us to go to public school out of fear of learning "secular" things like evolution. When I was younger, we would once a year be tested by someone who worked for the state so for a while I assumed it was a legal requirement, but then we just stopped, and as far as I know, my parent's never faced any repercussions as a result of us no longer getting tested yearly. I don't know if it is a situation where there is truly no legal requirement for homeschooling, or if there is and it is just not really enforced. But I know my family, and countless other families from that cult, did not come even close to achieving proper education standards for their kids and never once had any issues arise because of it. I knew teenagers who didn't know how to multiply, or how to write a cohesive sentence. Not a single kid I knew had even seen a science textbook. Many of the homeschool families would have a curriculum where every class was a bible class. All that as a long-winded way of saying, if there are any legal requirement, I have spent my whole life watching people spit in the face of whatever those legal requirements are and never face any punishment for it. Many of those kids, despite now being adults, probably to this day could not pass a 2nd grade Math or English course.
I’m a follower of the snark subreddit and *allegedly* the “lol stupid Covid ughhh” excuse for canceling some of the Max Mental shows was because their nanny dudes family died of Covid and he quit because Max and Sherri were dicks about it. Also it’s heartbreaking what’s going on with those kids, their health, hygiene, and education. And then on top of all of that the thing that made me even more creeped out about the whole thing is how Max wants their oldest daughter to basically be Sherri in a very creepy way. It’s a bizarre, sad, fucked up situation.
I've definitely noticed the family distance thing because I follow Stacy (Sucre) and she never posts anything with Sherri, and I just checked she doesn't even follow her. Stacy rocks btw.
I don't know if this is a hot take or anything, but I know way to much about this family. Some of that stuff is fucked up if true, and I empathize with people who have been grifted, but the last thing I want to engage with is a bunch of internet sleuths digging up dirt on an entire family that I don't know personally. Not saying @Benjamin Lee is doing that, I just think the subreddit is a little much - especially considering the Say Anything sub has already mostly turned on them. Let people close to them handle it imo
I’d be inclined to agree if they were not ripping off fans, trying to maintain a platform that they continue to abuse and engaging in behavior that is highly problematic while seemingly trying to manipulate their fans into helping them in their personal life. These people aren’t being sleuths without a reason, Max/Sherri have brought this upon themselves with a pattern of odd/disgusting behavior. The subreddit is almost like a support group for fans who have been taken advantage of. If they weren’t ripping people off and posting/saying weird shit on the internet, I doubt fans would give a shit about Max/Sherri’s personal life as much. We all have seen how this scene doesn’t care about accountability normally.
The kids' faces being blurred makes me feel a bit better, that was my main concern. I'd still prefer to know less about the intimate details of this family, whether that's the fault of over-eager Redditors or the family themselves lol.
This used to be like my favorite band and I even liked most of their more hated records and now I see more Say Anything coming and I'm like why? lol.
Can you fucking imagine a new say anything record that actually sounded good? Like polished, self-titled good. Or even Defense good. And didn't sound like it was recorded in his crowd-funded basement.
